Rumors have circulated the blogosphere that Cedar Fair execs are keeping a watchful eye Knott’s Berry Farm’s Perilous Plunge ride because of apparent low attendance.
Amusement park Web site, Scream Scape, has reported that years of operational and safety issues, including the death of an obese woman in 2001, have gotten corporate heads at Cedar Point wondering if the ride is worth the cost. Read more on Screamscape’s Knott’s news here.
To set the record straight, Knott’s spokeswoman Jennifer Blazey said there are no plans to close the 8-year-old attraction.
“That’s the first I’ve heard about it,” said Blazey when asked about the rumored closure. Still, we’ll keep an eye out for other reports about Perilous Plunge and keep you posted.

This weekend, I’ll be running in the Disneyland Family Fun Run 5K.
I have been running in the 5K race every year since its inception in 2006. My dad, who has run in over 100 road races and 10 marathons including the New York and Boston marathons, always runs it with me. It’s a great way for us to combine my enthusiasm for Disneyland and his passion for running. The embarrassing photo to the right shows my dad and me running past Sleeping Beauty Castle in the 2006 race.
I immediately suggested that we sign up for the race when I saw it advertised on Disney’s Web site. I don’t particularly like running, but I had to be in the race just because it was at Disneyland. I do not train for the race at all (unless you count Irish dance class). Being an annual passholder, I go to Disneyland often, but there is only one day a year when I can actually run through the park before it is open, which is why I enjoy participating in the 5K every year.

Construction continues in the Ariel’s Grotto area next to Sleeping Beauty Castle as Disney replaces it with a new Tinker Bell Meet & Greet. While almost everything from the Ariel’s Grotto Meet & Greet has been demolished, background music from “The Little Mermaid” could still be heard coming from behind the construction walls.
Since Ariel no longer has her Meet & Greet in Ariel’s Grotto, she has moved to the Disney Princess Fantasy Faire in Fantasyland. She is wearing a teal dress, instead of the fins that she wore in Ariel’s Grotto.
Ariel is currently greeting park visitors at the Disney Princess Royal Walk. Here, visitors can line up to meet, take pictures with and have autographs signed by three and occasionally four princesses. There is no schedule for which princesses will be out, but the characters that are available at any given time are Aurora, Belle, Cinderella, Jasmine, Mulan, Snow White and now Ariel. Take note that Pocahontas is no longer one of the characters at the Meet & Greet since the addition of Ariel. Pocahontas is currently not in any of the parades or shows at the Disneyland Resort. Beat the heat of a hot summer day at Disneyland with these tips.
- Get soaked on Splash Mountain in Disneyland or Grizzly River Run in Disney’s California Adventure; we recommend getting a Fastpass for both of these rides.
- For rides that will merely splash you, we suggest: Matterhorn Bobsleds, Jungle Cruise, Pirates of the Caribbean, Gadget’s Go Coaster and Davy Crockett’s Explorer Canoes.
- In Disney’s California Adventure, the Bountiful Valley Farm and the Princess Dot Puddle Park allow guests to play around in the water.
- Go see a show. At Disney’s California Adventure, some indoor shows are Turtle Talk with Crush and Disney’s Aladdin - A Musical Spectacular. At Disneyland, watch Billy Hill and the Hillbillies, which plays in the Golden Horseshoe Theater, Disneyland: The First 50 Magical Years, and Honey I Shrunk the Audience.
- All of the counter service restaurants will provide you with a cup of ice water, free upon request. Read the rest of this entry »
