Fans upset about the May 21 closing of Disney’s VirtualMagicKingdom.com social gaming site are now putting their message in a bottle, so to speak.
The free Disney site (also called VMK) was designed as an online promotion for Disneyland’s 50th anniversary. While you can read reaction from fans and Disney on VMK in our earlier posts here (with over 1,700 votes in a poll) and here ( a follow-up post about VMK), now we bring you video reactions.
A simple search for “save vmk” on YouTube.com turns out a list of videos posted within the last week. Many of the videos are videos recorded of people singing, speaking and dancing in the virtual world. Some of the more interesting ones include:
This video shows screenshots of the online game and is set to music so sad that one commenter said it caused him or her cry.
- This video is set to the “Message in a Bottle” song by The Police and includes a video taken of a person asking the “Yeti” character inside the game to “Save VMK.”
- This video shows on-screen responses from people about the closing of VMK.
- And, this video (click to read more and you can watch the video here) is over six minutes of a girl explaining why VMK should be saved. Her YouTube profile page says that her real name is Cassie and she writes “Many people have given up on VMK, but there is a handful of people who don’t want to give up. I am one of those people. I decided to make a youtube account so i can voice my opinions and suggestions to that handfull of kids. Remember Everyone, Let’s Save the Magic :).”
