Plans are in the works for the sixth expansion of the Anaheim Convention Center, which would add meeting and exhibit space to the 1.6-million square foot center.
The expansion is to include 200,000 square feet of space for exhibits and meetings, a three-star or higher hotel and 1,500 parking spaces. The city is reviewing plans from three developers, which will show their plans at a public meeting Tuesday.
The expected completion date is fall 2012. Cost estimates are not yet available.
Greg Smith, Anaheim’s convention, sports and entertainment director, said the city needs the meeting rooms, exhibit space and hotel rooms to keep its competitive advantage.
Smith said four conventions are outgrowing the center: The NAMM Show, a music exhibit; Natural Products Expo West; the Hobby Industry Association’s annual convention and trade show; and Medical Design & Manufacturing West. Keeping those shows is the “driving force” behind the expansion, he said.
