After other Disney blogs have rumored Indiana Jones movie tie-ins coming to Disneyland, the company announced the new features this afternoon.

As Indiana Jones looks for a mysterious Crystal Skull in movie theaters starting Thursday, the same character will also begin interacting with Disneyland guests.

The Indiana Jones Summer of Hidden Mysteries begins Thursday in Disneyland’s Adventureland.

The summer-long promotion includes a daily show, collectible adventure map for guests with hidden clues, random Indiana Jones character appearances in Adventureland and a new Indiana Jones-themed photo location.

These new features add to the existing Indiana Jones Adventure ride that opened in 1995. In that 3-minute, 20-second ride, guests discover the Temple of the Forbidden Eye and journey in motorized jeeps through the temple, filled with special effects and two appearances of Indiana Jones.

good idea for a new ride!

  • Belinda says:

Call me a Disneyland freak, but I swear you see Indy 3 times during the ride…(1)The beginning when he’s trying to hold the door closed, (2)near the end when he’s hanging on the rope before the boulder comes, and (3)at the very end before you get off the ride.

    Just an observation :)

it is supposed to be that way- its like you are going on the adventure with him.

    Hi,

I was wondering if anyone could tell me what the Indiana Jones ride at Disney is like….is it a Rollercoaster?

I understand the reasons behind the changes, and they sound fun - but I loved the Jungle Cruise just like it was! It makes me so sad that attractions that have withstood the test of time in their quaint ways are being revamped to tie in with Disney flicks.

    Belinda, I saw Indy a 4th time!
At the Disneyland park entrance, where you pay to get in

I can’t think of what door he’s holding closed, but I recall that scene. Also, he hangs on the rope before the boulder comes, then he’s at the spot where the boulder fell - at the end. :)

Someone better do fact checking next time they write an article! ~poke~ ^_^

Thanks Courtney and Belinda for your notes on Indiana Jones character appearances in the Indiana Jones Adventure attraction. I know of those three times you mention that the character is seen. But, these answers were provided to the Register when the ride opened in 1995 and I believe the second and third appearances are counted as one by Disney. From that past coverage it writes this of Indiana Jones appearances in the ride:
“You’ll see Indy twice during the ride (well, as close a replica as Disney’s imagineers can muster, anyway) and he’s programmed to say a bunch of different things: “Next time you’re on your own” and “You were good in there _ you were very good,” for example.”
Sorry for any misleading information about how many times “Indy” is seen on the ride and thanks for your comments.

  • Belinda says:

Read the other Register article, no worries! I’ve just been on that ride too many times, haha.

  • Josefina says:

The changes for Adventureland are not permanent. It is only the “Indiana Jones SUMMER of Hidden Mysteries” and will only be lasting throughout the summer. So no worries about the Jungle Cruise, it’ll be returning to normal this fall - as well as everything else.
