If you’ve got a birthday next year, you can get into Disneyland or Disney’s California Adventure for free.
Starting Jan. 1, the two theme parks will let you in free to one of them on your birthday.
If you already have a multi-day ticket or annual pass, you can choose an “alternate birthday treat,” like a gift card, a ticket for another day or Fast passes for the rest of your group – up to six people.
The gift will be worth the value of a day pass to one park.
“This is your birthday – come on in,” Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Chairman Jay Rasulo said in a Thursday telephone interview.
Regular admission into Disneyland is $69 for adults, and $59 for those ages 3-9; under age three is free.
The Disneyland and Disney World resorts are starting a new promotion to take advantage of the current tourism trend: celebration vacations.
According to industry research firm Ypartnership, more and more people are taking vacations to celebrate some life event, like a birthday, a reunion, a honeymoon or a retirement – so-called “milestone” vacations.
“People tend to plan more intensely and further in advance for certain vacations,” Rasulo said. “Historically, most of our celebrations have focused on Disney milestones. This is a celebration that focuses on milestones in our guests’ lives.”
Disney has used that research to organize its promotional strategy — the resorts next year will institute Web programs that let park partiers order ahead cakes, flowers, restaurant table service, tea parties with characters and other special services.
To avoid delays at the park, officials suggest pre-registering for the free tickets at www.disneyparks.com. To get the free passes, park-goers must show a valid ID for adults or notarized birth certificates for children.

My daughter Natalie’s b-day falls on July 31st, and we have the Southern California passport and every year her b-day is blocked out. It will be great we could get in on her very special day.

i’ve never been to disney land and i have two little girls and cant afford to take them to disney land. I would love to take them on there birth day.
So what. Why would I go by myself? Park hopper tickets are nearly $100 now. They just jacked up the prices more than $30 a ticket. Screw Disneyland.

I’m on a 38-year consecutive birthday streak right now. I’m pretty stoked.
Anybody else have terrible trouble registering their kids after signing themselves up? It doesn’t let me log out until I reboot my computer…then, when I try to sign up the kids, I use their bithdate and I can’t register them…or it wants me to change my profile to incorporate their birthday and name. I know computers and have spent one hour with no progress.
I suppose it makes sense that it would be made as frustrating as possible to discourage redemption.
Anyone else have problems or tips? Anyone have easy success?

Since I was born in 1955 I feel like Disneyland is part of me! Luckily I had an uncle that would take myself & 8-10 cousins to Disneyland every year! I would like to be at the park on my birthday in 2009!

What upsets me is that no other members of the child’s family, other than the parents, are allowed to celebrate the birthday. This definitely leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
Also, what nerve to publish names with their addresses and phone #’s. I wouldn’t appreciate mine being published for everyone to see.
Uh, Diane, you’re wrong on both counts. The birthday free admission or alternative is for the person having the birthday only. Anyone accompanying them will not get in free.
As for the names and addresses in the above post, it appears that comments are not moderated. The person who wrote that personal information in the comment section of a blog made a mistake.
