Take a look at what happened this week in Disney history:
Jan. 12, 1987: Star Tours, the first attraction collaboration between Disney and Lucasfilm, Ltd., premieres in Tomorrowland. Special guests for the inaugural flight included George Lucas, space Shuttle Voyager pilots Jeana Yeager and Dick Rutan, U.S. Astronauts Gordon Cooper, Donald “Deke” Slayton and Mrs. Gus Grissom. The grand opening is highlighted by a spectacular 60-hour grand opening party — one of the biggest ever staged at the Park.
Jan. 12, 2001: Downtown Disney District opens.
Jan. 16, 1970: Legacy of Walt Disney opens on Main Street, U.S.A., featuring a display of Walt Disney’s awards and other memorabilia along with an exhibit on the California Institute of the Arts.
