A La Palma woman says she’s angry with Disneyland for refusing to allow MTVtr3s cameras to tape in the Disneyland Hotel this June her daughter’s $150,000 quinceañera, a coming-of-age party celebrating a girl’s 15th birthday.
Disney officials say that the issue is clear-cut — the mother, Marilin Vargas, 46, signed a contract a year ago without mentioning any taping for broadcast.
Close to $60,000 of the $150,000 Vargas is spending on the party for her daughter, Chelsea Krueger, is on Disney catering and the banquet hall at the hotel.
MTVtr3s caters to a Latin-American audience and airs a show called “Quiero Mis Quince,” a cousin to the MTV show “My Super Sweet Sixteen.”
Both use the same premise — they chronicle wildly elaborate coming-of-age parties thrown by the families of teenage girls.
MTV declined comment for this story.
“Who is Disney to say, ‘No,’ because we’re paying them,” Kreuger said. “I really want Disney to see the stress they caused. All my life I wanted to have a big quince, and (MTVtr3s) has the big shows and all the drama, and I wanted that too.
“I sent in, like, two videos — I was trying really hard, and they liked me,” Krueger continued. “It gets me so mad that they’re not going to do this MTV thing.”
Disney officials said that Vargas signed a contract for the venue and food a year ago and mentioned nothing about taping. It was only about a month ago that Vargas approached the company to see about the taping.
“We are committed to ensuring a wonderful celebration for Chelsea and her family,” said Disney spokeswoman Suzi Brown. “However, we retain the right to approve all filming for broadcast at Disneyland Resort, and we feel this type of show is not the right fit for Disney Parks.”
Krueger said she’s still going to have the party at Disneyland. She said she’ll be wearing a Cinderella-type dress, and she’ll emerge from an ornate carriage, as well as sing a quinceañera song.
Some 400 people will attend the event, and Vargas said she hired the production company that decorates for the Grammy Awards to deck out the banquet hall.
Some may ask whether $150,000 is too much to spend on a 15 year old’s birthday party.
“I’ve saved money for ten years,” said Vargas, who owns a medical-supply company. “It’s a very important part of growing up. I didn’t charge anything to my credit card; I didn’t go bankrupt. I planned this.”

Good, I’m glad that Disney is standing their ground with this woman.
Anybody besides me realize the MTV and Disney are competitors in the TV industry? That is why they aren’t allowing the taping. I’m sure MTV would let Disney do a taping in their studios either. Common business practice, folks.
Thanks for sharing that. That is the real truth. Any other venue would not had an issue with it.
Ya they would. Nobody wants some bratty spoiled girl making up things and complaining making their venue look bad. Most places don’t want to be associated with that kind of obnoxious entitlement.
Agree, Heights Life, good for Disney to stand their ground.
I agree. Disney says no. Move on. You want real life drama? Tell this little brat that she should just take all the money her mommy is spending on this quince and have MTV tape her party on the grounds of the Santa Barbara fires instead. You want action? Got it. You want drama? Get it.
Did anyone else picture Veruca Salt from “Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory” when reading this article?
Shame on that mother for raising a BAD EGG!
Shame on you for judging people you don’t know!
Umm, MH29, doesn’t your comment demonstrate a judgment on your part of someone you don’t know?
Shame on me???
I was simply relaying my belief that this mother is teaching her daughter to act like a spoiled brat instead of a young lady! This family believes they can make up all the rules because they are paying. Well, life does not work that way.
Maybe YOU should reread this part of the article:
“Who is Disney to say, ‘No,’ because we’re paying them,” Kreuger said. “I really want Disney to see the stress they caused. All my life I wanted to have a big quince, and (MTVtr3s) has the big shows and all the drama, and I wanted that too.
Well, I say BOO HOO. You don’t always get what you want! This mother should be showing her daughter how to deal with disappointment in a dignified manner instead of calling the presses. This is a very sad situation and I feel sorry for this young girl.
Hey, I just had an excellent idea…. they should put a copy of “Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory” in the $10,000 gift bags!!! Happy 15th birthday Veruca.
“(MTVtr3s) has the big shows and all the drama, and I wanted that too”
this has got to be the most self-absorbed stupid quote ever. I’m surprised she’s not related to Octomom
Oh, please! This girl is behaving like a spoiled brat. Her mother should be ashamed of herself. Spare me the “judge not…” condemnation. No one’s sentencing her to prison, we’re just condemning her vulgar behavior. $150,000 might buy a deluxe party, but obviously it doesn’t buy wisdom or class.
When wealthy people spend money, they create jobs which in turn give average people the money to buy homes, food and the basic necessities of life. Most wealthy people do make donations to charity. I dont believe that just because one is wealthy that one has to have a modest party. They are entitled to enjoy their riches. Most teenage girls have parties and proms on their minds, why should this girl be any different to others? You are judging her and her mother harshly.
This is a classic case of the mother not understanding the issues when she signed with Disney and then agreed to MTV filming her daughter. It is even possible that MTV agreed to pay for a certain amount of the party. I am amazed at her naivety, she should have thought about the whole deal before she signed with Disney or MTV. If she is a businesswoman it should have occurred to her that there could be issues. Has MTV put her up to this?
The photos that have been presented, make me think that the whole article is a promotion of the MTV program.
By the way, I am poor not wealthy. I encourage the wealthy to spend money. More of it will be likely to come my way.
Inge, I applaud your disdain for class envy, and you’re right about the economic stimulation and job creation that wealth creates. But wealthy parents have an obligation to teach their children how to be responsible stewards of their wealth, not how to squander it. I don’t care if an adult wants to blow six figures on a birthday party for themselves, but this young girl already shows the rotten fruits of being spoiled.
I agree Charlene!!
I agree Charlene!! :):):)
Sounds like something Vanessa Bryant would say ~ “Who are you to tell ME what I can and cannot do? I pay you!”
I hate it when people have a feeling of “entitlement”……..
as a Disney shareholder I support this decision of not caving in for a quick buck.
Perhaps Mom should spend that $150 K on counseling so her little snowflake can learn she’s not the center of the universe.
Okay, people here. Everyone has the most definite right to do as they please, and obviously hateful and rude people are attacking. Okay so they decided to waste a colossal amount of money on a BIRTHDAY which is amazing, because she probably deserves it. Speaking from experience, one of the things that a Hispanic girl wishes in life is for a Quinceanera party, and to have it this way is great, because it is something that will be in your life, forever. So people please do yourselves a favor and mind your own business, and let this girl be happy and let her dreams come true like her and her family want it.
<3
If she’s scarred for life becuase her young birthday party wasn’t $150,000, disneyland, MTV, drama… all that then this girl is not going to make it through life.
The whole world doesn’t revolve around girls and their birthdays. You can’t MAKE other people do what you want because it’s your birthday. Welcome to real life!
If they say no, deal with it and be happy with what you’ve got.
It is pretty retared that a mom would spend so much money on something so retarded, but hey the Economy needs that money so lady keep spending! Give the economy the money so they can spend it on something better and more useful!
How sad for you to be so ignorant. For your information this mom is far from being retarted, on the contrary she is an extremely succesful business women, and she is allowed to spend her HARD EARNED MONEY on whatever pleases her!!!!!!!
“retarted” lol
mama may be a hard working business woman with a wad to toss around, but she is raising ONE BIG SPOILED BRAT!
I believe the nut falls close to the tree.
Totally agree with you. i can not believe people spend so much money and have an attitude like that. Why don’t they take that money and spend some time helping impoverished hispanic children and families.
Yes friend, mom is allowed to spend her money the way she cares too. As a business women, then she must understand contracts?
The contract language probably did not include language regarding professional taping or videotaping.
However, daughter claims to have sent in tapes that MTV. That tells me that they had intentions of having a professional taping of the celebration.
In that event, mom needed to go back and change the contract. When she did Disney refused to alter the contract.
Daughter then has a pouting attack, claiming we are paying for services and we should be allowed to do as we want.
Has mom explained to daughter how contracts work?
She sent them videos because they asked her to do it.
Actually the contract most likely does have a section dedicated to terms of filming. In fact, if the contract did not have a section on filming the parent would likely have sued Disney(most likely with Viacom lawyer help) over it. When something is not specifically stated in a contract, it becomes ambiguous (within most reason), very much open to interpretation, the classic, “You never said I could but you also never said I couldn’t.”
By the way, next time you go to D-land, look at the back of your ticket. By entering the park you are giving your consent to be filmed and your image used, etc. It also states that whatever pictures you take cannot be used for commercial purposes without D-lands express consent.
Trust me, the NO FILMING FOR COMMERCIAL PURPOSES clause is in that contract. There is no ambiguity.
Either this mom did this so she could make a big stink and get press, or she just doesn’t understand that Disney inc. gaurds their trademarked copyrighted “images” and “name” like Scrooge McDuck gaurds his money bin.
Oh little “Friend” . . mommy CAN spend her hard earned money on whatever pleases her - just not on private property. She thought she was teaching little daughter that money can buy everything and Disney is actually doing daughter a huge huge favor in saying, “no it doesn’t!”
How wonderful it was to read a news story proving that there IS someone wallowing in as much greed as Disneyland!!!! They were truly made for one another!!!!
Last time I checked, retarded people generally don’t have the discipline and intelligence to save $150,000 in the bank, let alone own medical-supply company. Angry much?
I’m gonna side with Disneyland on this. If the event were being held off their premise and they were just there for catering, then yeah. This is their property. I’m sure they wouldn’t have had an issue if it was just a few video cameras that friends and family were going to bring, but it seems it’s going to be an entire film crew.
i dont think that this is RETARDED because first off i bet that you arent even latino or hispanic to know what a “quinceanera” is & Chelsea Krueger is a really nice girl she deserves this quince and everything that her mom Marilin is doing for her. & her mom is probably one of the best people you may know in this worlld because shes helped alot of people.
yes MH93, mom can do as she wishes with her money. However that money can not alter contracts.
Please understand how contracts work. If mom wanted MTV to come and tape, then mom should have mentioned that in the original contract.
Mom can always have the contract re done and Disney can agree to change the contract. If not, then mom and daughter can take their party elsewhere.
Mtv called them about a month ago for this. Chelsea didnt have the idea to be in it, but since Mtv had said “yes” to her then she started to go along with it.
There is not a 15 year old in this world who deserves a $150,000 party. TJust because you can afford a rediculous party for your daughter doesn’t mean you should throw one. Does she have that much saved up for her college tuition, I doubt it!
Why do you care of she goes to college or not?
this is the problem right here. Nobody “deserves” something like this. Heck, kids don’t even “deserve” parties- they should feel lucky and grateful if their parents decide to give them one. Kids and teenagers have this major entitlement issues now and they don’t understand the difference between needs and wants. There are kids who are homeless and starving on the street, who “deserve” to have someone provide them food and shelter. She DOES NOT “DESERVE” to have a 150 k party.
MH93, the problem with this picture is your statement that “she deserves this quince and everything that her mom Marilin is doing for her”.
Why? Because she is nice? Because she behaves?
Listen, maybe you haven’t thought of this - you are obviously either young or you have the mind of a child (not sure which), but what about the children out there born to parents who have no money? What about children dying because they have nothing to eat,or because they have no clean water to drink? What about the kids beat to death by their daddy, or abandoned in dumpsters by teen moms without even a shred of common sense in their heads? Did they not “deserve” to have even enough food or water? Did they not “deserve” to live?
The problem with your sense of entitlement is that it blinds you to the reality of the world around you. Deep down inside, you consider yourself better than others, because being better than them is the only way you can “deserve” to have so much while they have not even enough to survive. If you really had any kind of thought process, you would realize that wanting a huge party like this is pure selfishness and greed, and you would consider doing something for the less fortunate rather than demanding an extraordinary party that less than 1 / 100th of the population will ever receive. Getting a party like that doesn’t make you special, it just makes you spoiled, and selfish.
So in that logic no one should get an sport car or even a mansion or a private jet or anything that the average people can’t get because it would make them selfish and arrogant.
So if you have the money you shouldn’t spend it because someone else could give it “better” use? Come on people! That is communism! If i have the money to spend i would do everything i want; if i should do everything that’s another story.
Back on topic, if the contract states that the mom can’t videotape for broadcasting case closed, if the contract doesn’t state it then it’s lawyers bussines, but from what i see it’s a problem of Viacom versus Disney at a small battleground; but if the mom or the girl wants to spend their own money the way they want its their own problem, heck, if the girls wants an small country and they have the money go ahead, but we shouldn’t judge this matter around the money.
MH93 - you need to go to bed and get some rest child. How could anyone live in Southern California and NOT know what a “quinceanera” is? Her mom may be a wonderful person but you, child need to chill and get some downtime.
i had a quinceanera okay. you probably dont even know what it is.
This woman has SERIOUS problems! I hope that she gets help right away.
Trust me hunny she dont got problems. She just knows how to earn her money & do something that is every teenage girls dreams.
MH93
Mom should have hired an attorney to deal with Disney. If mom is a business woman, then I can only assume she has an attorney on retainer.
Mh93 - I hope your mother is saving not just for college but to hire an English language tutor for you. Your spelling and grammar are atrocious. “she don’t got problems” you say. Maybe not, but doma or not, you sure do.
I know right she should. Do you have a problem with my grammer??? does it look like i care!!!
What I get out of this story is ” I want, I want, I want!” from the teen girl. Let’s throw a fit and see if it gets printed in the papers…barf! Good for you Disneyland!
Not every spoiled brat can have what she wants.
your wrong!!!!! only because you have the money to spend does NOT mean your spoile!
so stop hating because you cant afford something like this!!
The problem with your comment is that she is SPOILED because nobody will dare to have a MTV Quince or Sweet Sixteen party during the hard economic times.
Final verdict: Vargas+ MTV+Disneyland Hotel - FILMING denied= SPOILED!
How selfish and inconsiderate can you be? There are children who live in cars because their parents can’t afford a home. $150k would buy a decent home, or apartment, for some poor child yet you think it should be thrown away on a shallow teenager who wants to buy popularity? THIS is what’s wrong with our country, and a frightening glimpse of our future. Money doesn’t belong to a privileged few; it is meant to be earned to cover the cost of living. No one needs to be pampered or spoiled. What a joke. Hopefully she can grow out of this and become a well-balanced adult.
By the way, before you graduate high school you may want to learn that your is a possessive pronoun, you’re is a contraction meaning “you are”. As in “you’RE wrong”.
Parents with a sense of entitlement raise kids with a sense of entitlement; the child is not learning from this that she needs to work hard and strive, she is learning she is special and deserves to be treated better and differently from everyone else. That doesn’t go away just because someone gets older.
And you are correct - this IS one of the things wrong with our society.
Thank you for pointing out the possessive pronoun thing. It bothers me to no end!
poormama! You said it all so well !!
poormama, who died and made you God? Congradulations on spouting your views; it doesn’t make your views correct. $150k doesn’t buy anything good in the way of housing in SoCal, though you’re right, it may buy a decent car for kids to live in. WHAT? You’ve got a screwed up way of thinking. The point is is that you have no right whatsoever to tell other people how to spend their money. The mother did indeed earn it; therefore she can indeed spend it on whatever she wants. We haven’t gone totally socialist yet.
Mrs Keuger asks “Who is Disney to say, ‘No,’ because we’re paying them”. Is she kidding? She paid for a party, she did not pay for broadcast rights. If she isn’t willing to respect that, then she’s doing nothing but fostering the stereotype of the rich sociliate who equates having money with getting what you want. And if she fosters that stereotype, then she deserves every “rich/spoiled” comment she gets.
As much as I cannot stand Disney sometimes. I have to give them some props on this one.
Do not let Money or a poiled brat dictate how things should be. Way to go Disney.
Please lil spoiled girl, get Over it.. Disney really doesnt need such a dirty adult show in their park to film. So What, the girl can curse at every worker there and demand things because its her party. We all know how this show works! Cry us a river, Disney is making a GREAT SMART choice…!!
yeah “Bridezillas” for teens. hi I’m blah blah blah. then drama drama drama. then look how wonderful my party turned out.
thx but no thx
Me, me, me, me, me. I, I, I, I, I. Wow.
This is a story for the newspaper? I am sickened. Disgusted. I just hope as few as possible other kids see that article today. To talk of such nonsense when so many are suddenly without.
I completly agree w/Karla Ramirez. How is this story even in the paper?? Are we all supposed to feel sorry for this girl? There are so many people who have lost their homes, their jobs etc. Who cares if a spoiled child gets her party on MTV?? No 15yr old child should be having a $150,000 birthday party! The mother needs to teach this child some values!
That’s exactly what I thought as I was reading through this trash. How could this have been elevated to front page local if not for the shock value your misguided editors hoped to capitalize on? At best, this may have merited a short article in Our Towns.
It’s the same as when TV news shows drop everything to follow a car chase - they keep saying they want it to end peacefully, but they (and the viewers who keep tuned in anticipation) know that a spectacular crash will be better for ratings.
I’d use the money to get out of La Palma
Best comment FTW!
me
me 3. but you know the saying, big fish small pond? yeah
ARE YOU KIDDING ME !!!
DISNEY HAS EVER RIGHT TO REFUSE SERVICE.
HOW ABOUT BEING HONEST AND LETTING DISNEY KNOW THAT
YOU WERE THINKING ABOUT FILMING AND MAYBE THINGS MIGHT
HAVE GONE YOUR WAY.
LYING AND HIDING THINGS GETS YOU KNOW WHERE.
“THE WORLD DOES NOT REVOLVE AROUND SPOIL
SELF CENTERED KIDS”
PARENTS START BEING SMART…
How about getting her a cake and a balloon for her birthday.
THEN the spoiled brat could volunteer at and donate the rest of the money to a local food bank, soup kitchen or children’s hospital.
Now THAT would be worth filming and showing on TV.
I agree, grat comment!
Don’t give in to them Disney! People like this need to learn that no means no. Having money doesn’t mean you are excused from following the rules.
MTV3 CALLED HER FOR THIS!!! SHE DIDNT EVEN TRY TO GET THEM IN IT!!!
Yes she did. The article states she wanted it so badly she sent them 2 videos hoping she would get picked.
Lots of comments about the family and her being spoiled.
I won’t go there but….
The issue is not that they have money or how they are spending it. The issue is they are upset and whining to the public because Disney won’t allow MTV to tape it for their show.
I’m in no way a Disney lover but they are right to refuse the taping. MTV and show itself does not “jive” with the “family” reputation of Disney itself. I’ve seen this show and the sweet 16 show - both show spoiled girls who demean and disrespect their parents in front of tv cameras when they don’t get what they want.
Disney has every right to refuse the taping if a) it doesn’t fit with the reputation they have built and b) THE most important thing IT WASN’T IN THE CONTRACT. I’d be willing to bet the contract that the mom signed states that they must approve ahead of time any taping of the event that is done for reasons other than personal - i.e. - for a tv show or for being released commercially.
THAT is the issue and regardless of the amount of money spent - Disney is RIGHT on this one.
She actually did contact MTV for a spot on the show. The article like totally quotes her, I’m so sure:
“I sent in, like, two videos — I was trying really hard, and they liked me,” Krueger continued. “It gets me so mad that they’re not going to do this MTV thing.”
mh93 let us look at the story:
“Who is Disney to say, ‘No,’ because we’re paying them,” Kreuger said. “I really want Disney to see the stress they caused. All my life I wanted to have a big quince, and (MTVtr3s) has the big shows and all the drama, and I wanted that too.
“I sent in, like, two videos — I was trying really hard, and they liked me,” Krueger continued. “It gets me so mad that they’re not going to do this MTV thing.”
Then why did she say she sent in video. I highly doubt MTV was sitting around begging some spoiled brat from La Palma to be on their show. Reality check, the world doesn’t revolve around people like her. Its too bad that this spoiled brat is still getting her 15 minutes of fame.
^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^
they called her and asked if she was interested she said yes & then they asked for videos. she sent them they liked her.
Obviously MH93 knows this girl or is exactly like this family…
MH29 I get it. Out of all the people in the world, MTV contacts this girl to send in videos without any prior contact from the family?
Do you really expect people to believe that?
yeah i know the girl & i have every right to defend what i know alright!!!
V V V V V V V V
i dont care if people believe that or not i know what i know PERIOD.
Screw Mtv. I don’t like Disney either !
It’s taping, not filming. There’s no film involved. Please get the facts correct.
Yeah. Like this has anything to do with it.
On the bright side, the family is helping out the economy! I bet Disney won’t even thrown in complimentary Disneyland passes
CentralOC, well said!
To bad the money wasn’t spent on a women’s abuse shelter or a food bank; but this is america and its her money (for now) to spend as she wants.
Everyone keeps pointing out why doesn’t the mother donate the money to a shelter. From the article it seems as if she has saved a tidy sum of money from her business, but she is far from wealthy since she is living in La Palma. While I do think many people who go from rags to moderate riches like to flaunt their wealth and rub it in people’s faces, why SHOULD she feel the need to donate most of the money to a food bank or shelter. I’m sure many of you with Lexus or Escalades didn’t think that when you bought your cars. I’m sure that’s the first thing that crossed your mind when you bought that Iphone, or went on that cruise or European vacation. I don’t think so….be more realistic.
While I don’t think the mother is doing a service to her child by spending over $150,000 (I know many people who spent modest sums on a quinceanera or a Bar Mitzvah (jewish coming of age), why should she give most of that money to charity if she is not considered “rich” since she lives in La Palma. She should donate a modest sum $1,000 to charity but not give away most. I’m sure none of you would donate most of the money you saved for.
This woman obviously wanted fame, the party was secondary.
Who the hell are you?! You DO NOT know Marilin, so keep your pointless remarks to yourself!!!
I may not know Marilin but why is she complaining in a public newspaper? Why a $150,000 party? Why MTV? Doesn’t that equate to someone wanting fame?
“Fame,” for the record, is public estimation (reputation) or popular acclaim (renown).
One of the catalysts that created the United States of America as a country was a little pamphlet called “Common Sense” by Thomas Paine, one of the Founding Fathers. America, as we know it today, seems to have lost contact with that…
On a psychological note, public flaunting of wealth in an extravagant manner, usually signifies one’s insecurities. The insecure mother wants to make up for her shortcomings by working hard to make sure her daughter never experiences the same thing the mother went through. However, this part of the cycle is usually overdone (like in this article’s case). This in turn would shape the daughter to be a spoiled brat and an insensitive adult. When the daughter becomes a mother herself, her spoiled nature will prevail and become insensitive towards her won children. Thus the cycle of insecurity repeats with the birth of the insecure daughter, born of the spoiled brat of Marilin.
Social Scientists would agree that America and many other “first class countries” today reeks with the stench of this vile circle of insecurities. Have you ever wondered why families of “first class countries” are very broken and detached. Lots of dysfunctional families, divorce, single-parent families, and spoiled brats? It’s because of bad decisions ruled by an overpowering “want” factor. That is the price we pay for unrestricted free market and capitalism.
We have passed the threshold of no return many generations ago. Breaking this cycle of insecurity is an intense uphill battle but not impossible. Soon nature, through micro evolution, will determine the outcome of the next variation of humans, socio-economically speaking. The future looks bleak, as the cliche goes. But hey! What do I know.?
Thank you, Dr Phil.
I know a little girl dying of cancer, who probably wont get a sweet sixteen, now THAT is something to be upset about.
I have a hard time seeing money thrown away while others starve and suffer, but that’s just me. Go ahead and blow your money any way you want, but please dont then have a tantrum and expect sympathy when the small details arent perfect.
Carry on spoiled child.
You could apply that same logic to starving kids in Africa, but that doesn’t stop most Americans from shoving needless pounds of food down their throat to the point most Americans are clinically overweight. You could apply the same to logic to fancy cars–most can get by with a nice used sedan–but that doesn’t stop most, whw have money, from buying a luxury car or a house that is larger than their needs dictate. Humans, by nature are vain and many judge each other by appearances so if someone can afford something to make them look better than others (nicer car, nicer house, nicer clothes) they will opt to take the shallow road. Everything is relative…if someone has $60,000 saved to buy a hot car, most won’t give charity a fleeting thought. I try to donate money every week and make a difference in people’s lives. I also donate my company’s services to people in need. People have to realize that if they make all sorts of judgments on people’s lives, they had better follow their advice and donate any spare money they might have to charity…if not, then they are hypocrites and that is priceless.
Kudos to you, Pringles! You’re a far better person than the average apathetic American. However, while I do agree with your logic regarding hyprocrites and the relativity of everything, but spending $150,000 for a single party (on a recession) hardly seems pragmatic. I know I probably won’t donate much had I been given that much money, but I surely won’t spend it on something that is so unsubstantial. A luxury car is more pragmatic (but not by much) because at least it has a lasting purpose.
No, that line of reasoning is utter nonsense. You said:
“they had better follow their advice and donate any spare money they might have to charity”
Nonsense, pure and simple. Nobody is saying that people shouldn’t spend money on things they want, etc. Yet, there is balance that needs to be maintained and we DO need to recognize a responsibility to help others. To suggest that recognizing the excessive nature of a $150,000 party for a teenager means one ought to give ALL excess money to charity is just an absurd, illogical argument.
No one said to give all excess money to charity. Perhaps you should use some excess money to buy new reading glasses.
Marko, my message contains a direct QUOTE - the fact that the author or someone else edited the original content is a non-issue. Perhaps YOU need to get reading glasses.
Hint: the portion inside the quotes was COPIED from the message I responded to. That statement WAS made.
I totally agree w/ you. Have your party, spend whatever you feel you can afford but the pathetic pictures of the girl pouting amid “stuff” is not going to garner any sympathy especially in these tough times. It doesn’t matter if she’s a good kid with a good heart or if her mom donates money to charity. The article depicts her as a spoiled brat and her whining over not getting to have her party on MTV is of no consequence to anyone but her.
“Who is Disney to say, ‘No,’ because we’re paying them,” I think the mom needs a quinceañera to grow up! You did not mention the Mtv thing because you new that it would be turn downy. You figured that once the ball got going that they would go ahead anyway let you do it.
:snicker:
obscenely priced $150,000 quinceañera pwnd by IN DA FAISE by Disneyland.
$150k can feed a lot of children in Tijuana. Maybe she should have her coming out party in TJ and MTV can be a good corporate citizen and film her feeding hungry kids in orphanages in tijuana for her coming out party. That would have more societal impact than burning through all that cash for one night. what a SPOILED ROTTEN kid.
why tiajuanas we need to take of our own here in the u.s. besides there plenty mexicans citizens here anyways
FIFTEEN? 15?
Why does she behave like a 2 yr old?
It’s all about MEEEEEEEE.
Disgusting. So her coming out may have done her in.
lmfao that was the best way to put it. keep your comments comming!
There is a God! Not only does that show make me sick, but the fact that these parents feel that a 15-16 year old girl has done anything to deserve $150,000 worth of partying is beyond moronic! In this economy that money could be going to her education, charity, savings, etc. I think about the families that are educated and yet still losing jobs and struggling to keep their lights on and food in their kid’s mouths and when I read this it makes me so angry at that family. Who are they? They’re rich so they
What makes you think they haven’t also saved/given money for her education/charity/savings/etc.? Do you know more about this situation? Please enlighten the rest of us.
I think Marie is just outraged about the pointlessness of the way the money is going to be spent. None of us have the right to dictate to the family how their money should be spent, but I am also angered by the fact the a quinceanera should cost $150,000. Lack of common sense can be frustrating.
I don’t believe either you or Marie gets to decide whether the way the money is being spent is pointless or not, but let’s put this aside for a moment. If the mother had $600,000 and gave $150,000 to charity while putting aside another half of that sum - $150k each for college and a rainy day, would you still be outraged at spending that amount for a quince? If so, then we still disagee. If not, my question is how do you know that is not the case?
Yes- MTV is Tramp Trash TV. Disney has the right to refuse garbage to degrade thier name.
MTV is dead nobody watches it…..80’s has been
It’s the Parents fault,
In the infamous words of Nelson……Ha-Ha!
I’m glad Disney is standing there ground. That mother should have told them from the beginning about the MTV show.
im so sick and tired of these shows with spoiled little brats getting whatever they want and doing whatever they please.
there are much more important events going on in the world and this makes the news!?!
STOP POUTING! you can’t get everything you want… THAT’S LIFE!
Ridiculous. I’m glad there’s people out there without jobs or homes right now, but this lady who saved all this $ just to blow it on 1 day for her daughter’s 15 year birthday should feel great. Nevermind that she owns her own medical supply company & could be helping thousands with supplies, aid or $. But no, please go ahead & make sure to spoil your child so we can have yet another Real Houswife Of Orange County on our hands in a couple years.
Perfectly said, OCguy77. This is utterly ridiculous. And we wonder what is wrong with our society today? Very sad. Thank you, Disney, for putting the brakes on this.
Um, Disney isn’t putting the brakes on this. Just on the taping.
why is everyone hating on the mom and the girl? Mom worked hard to throw her daughter this party, and no to mention stimulating the economy of anaheim single handedly! Its a traditional coming of age ceremony, more power to them!
everyone is hating on them because they think, because they have money, they can do whatever they want… they just assumed they can bring in the cameras and flaunt their riches. they should have been more clear with their intentions as to having MTV tape/film on Disney Property.
And because Disney said “no” they’re broadcasting it to shine a bad light on the Disney corporation and for them to get some kind of pity vote.
they should just move to some other hotel/hall and show off there!
i hope they’re enjoying their 15mins. of fame.
People are dissing on the mom and the girl because they took this story public as they have learned that if they whine, pout and cry about something they don’t like, someone will cave in a cater to their demands. Personally, I don’t care what people spend their money on, that’s their choice, but this story stinks and I have no respect for the mother or daughter.
Singlehandedly stimulated the economy in anaheim? You are seriously deranged. Obviously you have not noticed the thousands of people who go to disneyland and dca on a daily basis and pay $90 per person to get in. They contribute much more to the economy in Anaheim than a mother who simply wants to show off and a 14 year old who is spoiled enough to blame a large corporation for not getting her way. If mom spending $150,000 on this brat’s 15th birthday party can be spoiled simply because she cannot be filmed and put on a trash show, she doesnt deserve the party.
“Stimulating the economy of Anaheim…”
Are you serious? That money would go to a corporation! I’m sure that Disney would NOT spend that money to invest in a car to help the failing car industry. I don’t think Disney would invest that money in our failing banks. I don’t think Disney is going to lower their admission price with that money to further boost Anaheim’s tourism. I don’t think Disney will buy houses (especially in Anaheim) to save its failing house markets.
You want to stimulate Anaheim’s economy? You should give money to the middle-class families so they can spend it on things that drive the economy.
Oh and we’re not hating on the mom and the girl. We’re hating on their lack of common sense.
I think you misunderstand how the economy gets stimulated.
While I think this is rather ridiculous and I feel sorry for the girl that she is so upset about this and the Mom for her extravagance, yes the money will be going to a corporation–Disney and maybe some others. But guess what, Disney employs a lot of people. With a big event like this, they may well bring in extra staff to attend to the needs of the party. And of course since Disney is doing the catering it said, they need food, beverages, supplies, etc so they buy they from other co’s who have employees who get paid, etc.
So it will have something of a stimulus effect as that money gets spread around.
Someone compared her to Octomom but there is a big difference. While most of us think this is foolishness and are dismayed by the sense of entitlement the daughter shows, the Mom did work hard for the money and saved up for this–she isn’t asking others to pay for it.
So while it may be excessive, she is paying for the celebration. It does seem strange that she didn’t think of making sure they were on the same page about the MTV thing, but then people do things like that–compartmentalize and then maybe belatedly remember some details.
I do hope as others have mentioned that the Mom has also said aside money for college or for her daughter’s future as well as for her own.
She pouts.
She smiles amid bags of merchandise.
She spends an obscene amount of money on one event that’s over before she can drive.
What about college? What about learning values? Maybe life lessons? You’d think in this economy they’d be able to do something useful.
Way to go, mom!
Notice dad/husband didn’t weigh in with his $10K worth.
I bet this mom and her daughter hoped that if they get the story out there people would defend them. Well they are wrong. Its Disney’s right. These shows are stupid. These girls are all spoiled, dramatic, annoying brats. There are people out their who have real problems and drama and these girls need to go creating fake drama and be on tv. Just wait until your 18 and go on Rock of Love if you want drama.
ahahaha Rock of Love!! priceless
Good grief! Are these two serious? Mom and daughter both need a reality check and get a better grasp on their priorities. Good job Disney for standing their ground.
Bye the way, I’ve watched these shows and most of the kids on it are selfish, ugly (inside) little brats who I really can see growing up to be miserable adults who will never be satisfied with anything.
I agree with kejustice
“How about getting her a cake and a balloon for her birthday.
THEN the spoiled brat could volunteer at and donate the rest of the money to a local food bank, soup kitchen or children’s hospital.”
So much wasted Money and people wonder why so many of the youth of America are the way they are.
If she had been up front when she booked the catering and facilities I would be more apt to agree it’s an issue with the Mouse. But Disney owns the images they want to film as well as the brands that would undoubtedly come into play with the content of the video/film.
What a waste
Good for Disneyland - they have EVERY right to refuse this under-handed scheme. If the mother really wanted to celebrate her daughter maybe she should take that $150k and donate it in her daughter’s name to CHOC to help the poor kids who can’t even get out of bed to enjoy DL or a B-Day party. This whole story is beyond shameful - oh, and the photos scream SPOILED.
This is another child who is used to getting her way and never being told no, or having to responsibilty, and shame on the mother for thinking if you have enough money you can do what you want? You are teaching this girl as long as I have enough money I can do what I want ! Wrong that’s why Disneyland, told you no!!!!! I wonder has this mother thought about what $150,000, is worth in this day and age? No big deal we will see her and her daughter in a couple years saying they lost their home because she couldn’t pay her mortgage on time, so can the government bail her out?
“I’ve saved money for ten years,” said Vargas, who owns a medical-supply company. “It’s a very important part of growing up. I didn’t charge anything to my credit card; I didn’t go bankrupt. I planned this.”
–
there’s “very important” and then there is being utterly ridiculous. this fits into the latter category. it’s not like you graduated college or are having a wedding, which even that budget would be considered elaborate for. talk about Circus Vargas
Reply to all I think she is a spoiled as can be I think the best way is yes to donate the money to the people who need it. This show is to show off the money she has to the world I would not watch her event she does not have any talent and for sure she is not an actress so Disney can do as they please I have seen that Disney is a sport to this kind of things and at times for FREE but for people that cant afford the dream and they do deserve it she needs a reallity check and she that people like this need to open there eyes this is a waiste of money but it is here Parents so do as you please with your benefits but dont televise it I will not give rading to a show that waiste my time with selfcenter little brats that dont realize that we are in a need of human support……………………………………..
Ms. Vargas, did you read the contract or assume because you have the money that you would get your way? Never sign anything and assume you can do what you want, when you want to. Always consult legal advice in any expenditure exceeding $5,000 and for God’s sake don’t have any mention in the local press that you are spending a great deal of money - that you have saved over a period of years - surely you will draw the ire of the nice people at both state and federal levels of Internal Revenue. Ooops…to late.
This is disgusting. When there are so many people hurting, out of work…who in their right mind would spend $90K to $150K on a party for their daughters coming out party. Gimme a break. Even if I were a multi-millionaire, I’d be embarrased to spend this kind of money, when so many people are hurting. It’s like a slap in the face.
Happy 15th Birthday Hunny…..ooops…there goes the college fund!! People, be smart…does that 15 year old know the hard work it takes to even earn a dollar?!!?
I agree with Disneyland and am glad they are sticking with a no. This is ridiculous! This little girl cant throw a tantrum and get what she wants, that is reality. Just wait until she is out in the real world, that is going tobe scary. Yikes why would this lady do something so extravagant? I get celebrating but really to spend so much money!!!?
Chelsea said “Who is Disney to say no?” The owners of the hotel that’s who! You folks want it filmed; buy the hotel and you can do whatever you want otherwise shut up and enjoy your party. I can’t even afford a gift for my sons graduation this year so I just like many others have NO sympathy for you.
Folks. Before we go bashing anyone, we need to make sure of all the facts. Did anyone ask the mother when she signed the contract with Disney whether or not they discussed about video taping the event?
It is their money and they can spend it any way they wish. I do not agree with spending this large sum of money for an event that has become irrelevant.
During the early days of California young women who turned 15 would be married off by their parents to wealthy land owners.
Let them do as they please with their money. I am not an attorney, but I do know that an agreement should have been in place for the video taping. If one was not then shame on the mother for not including it. If it was last minute by the mother to add it then she needed to get Disney’s approval.
Hey, the mother could have taken her money and celebrated her daughter’s whatever somewhere else couldn’t she?
No. Disney did the right thing. The mother and daughter are uneducated on how legal contracts work.
Maybe that money should be spent on an education where the daughter understands legal contracts?
Spoiled brat. Willy Wonka was right.
I agree with Disneyland!
And besides, $150,000 DOLLAR party?
Use the money for something more important, like
feed or house the poor or something.
$150,000 DOLLAR PARTY………how sickening is that.
$150k.
For a party…
For a girl’s 15th birthday party.
She’s already in Disneyland.
How very SAD! This girl should have a smaller party for $10k and then take $140k to go help people who are less fortunate and really are starving right here in Anaheim.
You’re 16 girl ….. time to grow up and learn the real World right under your spoil little noise.
How very SAD! You are 16 and really have no clue about life.
How very SAD! How very SAD!
I think everyone should ease up on insulting people. I am not saying I agree with with one side or the other….But I personally have known this family for years and how they choose to spend their hard earned money is no reason for grown adults to insult a young girl. Shame on all of you!
Fine. We will insult the parents for having no common sense in how to raise a kid with proper views of how things are in the outside world. As opposed to a sheltered “we can have anything we want because we are rich” mentality. Heaven forbid this kid gets out in the real world with no money, she is done because she won’t have a clue how to react, be self reliant, or think for herself! I am sure they are the nicest people in the world, but it doesn’t excuse them from doing something dumb just because they can.
Since you know this family personally, did they also save for her college education or for just the party?
We’re curious.
Look i know the family too trust me they are the greatest people you can ever know. Marilin has helped alot of Chelseas friends cause yeah they may have money but Chelseas best friend & close friends dont have much money & Chelsea is not a brat shes a very respectful young lady she deserves everything that her mom is doing for her.
You still didn’t answer my question about college. I don’t really care how much she ‘deserves’ everything.
MH93 it seems you are too close to the forest to see the trees. Chelsea is not a brat? How do you explain her remarks? How do explain mom’s remarks?
Maybe they are lining your pockets?
You’re kidding, right? When this “young girl” starts throwing fits because she dosent get everything that she wants, she is opening herself for all of the insults that come her way. In fact, it sounds like her mother is looking to show off how great she is at mothering by spending a ridiculous amount of money. I have been to many quinces and seen as much as 20,000 dollars spent. The events were terrific and the little girl was ecstatic. This mother and the daughter need a serious reality check. They invited the public to join in when they tried to get on tv to broadcast this ridiculous affair.
What part of her brain does this woman make business decisions for her medical supply company? If any of her profits is derived from medi-cal or medi-care treatments, someone in the Gov’t has to do a better job of selecting vendors. If its $150K for a 15th birthday, what is her wedding going to cost? And face it Mom, you love the attention too. Disney, MTV, insanely spoiled teen, indulgent mom, the Register, its hard to find a sympathetic figure here.
Interesting thought.. She “says” she saved the money, prolly just took it from the state government.
BOO HOO you little spoiled brat! Think about the teenagers that are lucky enough to have a birthday cake in these tough times rather than flaunting your party and trying to be dic=scovered!! And Marilin, quit trying to live through your daughter!
OOPS…..”discovered”
That $150,000 should be used for her college education.
couldnt agree with you more. and with the increasing cost of education, they’ll need…
better yet if they have so much money to squander why not give some to other students struggling to get and education.
Her mom helps high school graduates that need a job FYI
judging by the value of a HS diploma these days, not surprised they need it
Helps high school graduates with a job? Really? Boy, I can only imagiine the paperwork involved there!
Although, I have never worked at a medical supply company, I wonder what kind of employment opportunities it creates.
Whose education, daughter’s? Or Mom’s?
Help, someone call a whambulance!
Wanna bet she will go to USC when she goes to college!!!!!
“AND JUST SO YOU KNOW SHE WILL BE ATTENDING A UC JUST BECAUSE SHE HAS THE GRADES AND THE MONEY TO GO… SO MAYBE THATS SOMETHING YOU SHOULD HAVE DONE… SO YOU CAN HAVE SOME COMMON SENSE”
nope….. UCLA or UCSD (backup: UCR)
What’s with the “Quincy” anyway? She’s half Gringa…..Krueger doesn’t sound Hispanic to me! I’ll bet MOM never had one, (Again BOO HOO) and was never a cheerleader. GO MOM GO!
YOUR OBVIOUSLY NOT A LATINO…. WHY ARE YOU COMENTING WHEN YOU DONT EVEN KNOW WHAT A “QUINCE” NOT “QUINCY” IS……GET A DICTIONARY AND FIND OUT!!! AND WHO CARES IF HER LAST NAME IS NOT HISPANIC.. SHES LATINA AND THATS IIT…. AND JUST SO YOU KNOW SHE WILL BE ATTENDING A UC JUST BECAUSE SHE HAS THE GRADES AND THE MONEY TO GO… SO MAYBE THATS SOMETHING YOU SHOULD HAVE DONE…
SO YOU CAN HAVE SOME COMMON SENSE!
Whoa! Turn off Caps Lock! Caps Locking that way you do totally erases the intensity of your comment, especially with a smiley face. You don’t come off as angry. You come off as a tacky whiner.
Anyway, I don’t think the dictionary will tell anyone that a quinceanera means a $150,000 party. Quinceanera is a traditional Hispanic coming of age celebration for girls that turn 15. Quinceanera, like it’s “gringo” counter part Sweet Sixteen, has a primitive origins: fertility and marriage. Back in ancient times, the “mid teen years” is a time when daughters are given up for marriage by their family to a (preferrably rich) husband.
The way the mom is treating the daughter, it seems to me that that is not how someone should come out of age. It looks more like the mother is pampering the daughter like wee little baby.
I find it kind of funny that you tell someone to get a dictionary, all the while writing with the caps lock on and misspelling so many words……just a though.
Poor, poor mama….the only reason to spend $150K on a party is to show off, now she can’t share it with the world. The kids in these shows are fairly spoiled, who expect anything they ask for, so it;s a good lesson that they can’t get whatever they want whenever they want.
Contrast this with the grad party Dr. Gordon, Pres. of CSUF, threw for 8 grads and 13 incoming students who are former foster kids Wednesday, May 6! Contrast what these kids have been thru and still they made into or
thru college! Sadly, the Register did not cover that wonderful story!
WAIT! Why is the register even covering this pitiful exhibition. Aren’t there better public intrerest stories out there to cover? REAL people, who need REAL help from us.
It’s because the Register is not a real dependable news source. It’s heavily conservative that loves Yellow Journalism. It’s like a tabloid almost..
Why not spend “only” $90,000 for your spoiled kid’s 15th birthday party, and use the leftover money to fund the college education of a deserving student who otherwise could not afford to go?
Way to stand up to this lady, Disney.
EVERY PARENT is responsible for THEIR children Marilin is a successful woman that has earn that money in a clean way not selling drugs or any other thing like other people win their money. Marilin knows how to raise her child .If she wants to waste all the money in the world to make Chelseas quince LET HER. HER MONEY!. GET IT? GOT IT?
She might sell drugs, legally, but your tone suggests a bias for the “privileged”. People such as yourself and the mother are responsible for making “privileged” a bad word. Your obviously just as messed up as these “women”. Your statement “like other people win their money” also implies that your rudimentary understanding of earning wealth is flawed beyond a doubt. Either you’re 15 or 16 like the girl in this story or your just as mature. The world is chock full of grown up children as opposed to fully functioning adults. Please become one of the latter.
1.) Learn to punctuate. It’s never too late. My guess is you’re born in1993, and you’re a “friend” of Chelsea (if you’re not Chelsea) because you’re aggressively defensive. That would make you around the age of 15, so you’re still in school. Make the most of your time there.
2.) Using the Caps Lock is a tacky way to emanate anger. Using Caps Lock actually lessens the credibility of your statements.
3.) Of course Marilin knows how to raise her child. She’s got millions of years of instinct guiding her. But that only applies to the physical nurturing. Socially and mentally, Marilin is actually doing her daughter a disservice for spoiling her.
Yeah i am 15. No thanks your no one to tell me what to do or how to punctuate kkkkkkkkkkkkkk thanks love ya
Shame on all the derogatory comments regarding a family whom you do not know. Especially those who have the audacity of demeaning a child!!!! Sadly most of you are ignorant and do not realize that this is a cultural tradition. As far as spending, everyone has the right to spend their HARD EARNED MONEY on whatever makes them happy. How sad that people can be so ENVIOUS of those that are successful and more fortunate.
I do have that much money, “Friend”. I would never, ever, spend it like that. What kind of message does that send to the kid?
Agreed. I actually pity the poor daughter. What’s going to happen when her parents are gone and she has to deal with life herself? It will be a harsh and rude wake up call.
I’ve seen it happen to so many spoiled kids.
First of all, I agree with “Friend”. How dare ANYONE insult this girl so harshly, when you don’t even KNOW this person? People are so very ignorant. And jealousy is also played very much here. And now when people have more money to spend, they are shamed upon? It’s a CRIME now to have money to spend. It is their money and they can do whatever they want with it. This family came here with the clothes on their back, thats it. Congrats to the family for being successful. All power to the family for spending their money on a fun and beautiful party for a beautiful person. And people who say she’s a spoiled brat? Take a look at yourself first. First thing I learned was to not judge. Do not judge Chelsea, because she is a beautiful person, inside and out. And what is “Friend”’s message saying to this young girl? It is simply backing her up, because all of the people here who have wrote these disgusting comments are not giving her advice, but bringing her down into little tiny pieces.
Whether or not you’d ever spend that much money on a celebration is up to you. Just because you wouldn’t doesn’t mean others can’t. As for the message it sends to the kid, I don’t know. It could mean a million things. It could mean that they love her a lot. It could mean that she’s been working hard in school and participating in a lot of fundraising events in return for this celebration that her parents promised her. It could mean that they’re simply spoiling her and telling her that money grows on tree. I don’t know the family, so I’m not going to sit here and judge them, let alone tell them how to raise their children.
As for everybody saying they should have donated the money: I’m sure this lady donates plenty of money to charities. We can’t expect her to donate every penny she’s got and spend nothing on herself and her family, right? Besides, we can all donate as much as we like, and as much as we’d like to end poverty, the poor will always exist. The best thing you can do for the poor is to not be one of them.
Well then, have her DONATE some money to me.
I can use $1,000.00, and I’ll give her a receipt.
FRIEND….were are not envious. Quite the contrary. I applaud this mother for working hard or whatever she did to save money to provide her daughter with a spectacular party. Successful at saving for ten years in order to afford the party? Fortunate to have a daughter who cares about herself more than others? This family asked for the negative attention by presenting “heartbreaking” story to the public.
I think this family is insane for thinking they can request at the last minute (*last minute in terms of planning any major event) for a major production company to come in and tape the event & for having the audacity to go public (OC Reg) with their whinning about awwww poor little girl
Chelsea cares about other more than she does to herself alright. MTV3 called them like not even a month ago & asked for all these videos. Chelsea didnt believe this. She worked very in those videos. MTV told her to act like a bratty girl. But she isnt any of whatever all these people are trying to call her. She deserves this and Marilin didnt call the OC register. Someone else had.
damn…thats funny… Blame MTV..
“They told her to act bratty.”
….
Sorry, fell out of my chair laughing so hard.
Wow! You’re so defensive! I wonder how much influence did the family’s money have on you? I can bet my life that had you not been close to that family, you would not be defending that family. I can bet that you would join the mass of people that frown upon that wasteful family. Hypocrite.
“Sadly most of you are ignorant and do not realize that this is a cultural tradition.”
Really? It’s in Hispanic culture to spend $150,000 on a quinceanera? I need to go back to school then to reeducate myself with such trivialities!
By the way, I am not envious. I do not want to have to experience that ordeal of being spoiled. I actually pity Chelsea because she’s going to be one of the people that are stuck into thinking that having loads of money is the epitome of being a human. That’s fantasy, not reality. In reality, she’ll be one of those morally challenged adults that continue to paint America as a morally defunct country.
They are not paying me anything. I just know whats the truth that’s all
You guys are judging people whom you don’t know.
Wow. You are just consistently proving that you are an ignorant little child.
I’m currently planning my WEDDING, and my parents are paying for all of it. They absolutely have that kind of money, but I honestly can’t even imagine having them spend that much on it. I’m shooting to keep the entire wedding no more than $15k. It’ll probably be closer to 10 or 12. Why?? Because I realize that even for a WEDDING, there is no reason to waste that kind of money. There are much more important things in life to spend money on than a one-day party. It doesn’t take an adult with years of experience with finances to understand financial responsibility. I’m only 21. It’s sad that she doesn’t understand that, and it’s even sadder that her mom isn’t teaching her.
Her mom is going to have to take out a loan to top this when it comes to her wedding.
I’m with Disney on this one. Seems the officials at MTV should have known there would be issues, especially with Disney’s reputation for strict protocol and control. A dumb move, to say the least. Should have planned this at another location, one that needs the free publicity.
OH, Boo Hoo “FRIEND”….You must be getting something out of this. And, by law she is no “child”. The law defines a child as under the age of 14! She’s a manipulative tennager who has her parents right where she wants them. I have nothing but respect for Disney for standing their ground on this issue. Maybe MOMMY will find out more bout her daughter’s “demands”before signing a contract. That “pout” was disgustingt!!
Yeah you’re right; I am getting something out of it. I’m getting the satisfaction of defending a family who none of you jealous people know. A family, who came to this country decades ago with “literally” the clothes on their back, rolled up their sleeves, struggled to make ends meet without ever having to or expecting to collect a single dime from public assistance. They have worked hard for every cent they have earned, and to make a success out of themselves. That’s generally defined as ambition!!! Now everyone is bagging on them just because they are blessed and fortunate enough to have money to spare on a celebration. This also happens to be a very generous family, who is constantly donating to charity and always helping those less fortunate. But, like I said before most of you are ignorant and choose to assume and chastise others you don’t know. The point is: “If you have it, do with it on whatever makes you happy! It’s their life.
By the way…Chelsea will go to college too! Suck it up!
WAY TO GO “FRIEND” I LOVE YOU!!! THANKS FOR WRTING EVERYTHING YOUR SAYING.
I think how they earned their money and what they do with it is not the issue here. It’s their behavior. By making this a “NEWS” exposed their characters to be criticized. They should have kept this issue private, which it is. Because if their purpose of going public is to get sympathy, they”re going to get it.
Well….It’s amazing…I was not aware that all of the OC register readers that made comments are in favor or racist remarks and encouraging socialist ideals such as in donating other people money….you are all so creative! as for the one that said…spend it in Tijuana….and the other that said Kruegar was an anglo name…GO BACK TO SCHOOL…YOUR LAST NAME DOES NOT DETERMINE YOUR IMMIDIATE ETHNICITY! their are “Stephen’s” in Mexico, “O’Reilly’s” in Cuba, and many other “non Spanish” last names in all of latin america…IGNORANCE IS ON THE ABBUNDANCE LEVEL TODAY!
schadenfreude.
It’s so sad that this poor girl will peak at age 15.
You must be be very bitter person.
if she can afford 150,000k, then it would be a few thousand to break the contract. take her business somewhere else. oh, and yes, it is excessive. i don’t think i would do that. yet, it is what she desires. who are we to judge? O.C. is riddled with a bunch of judges. It is her hard earned money. what is that to you!? leave her alone. judge!
anyhow, i suggest she break that contract, go to a different venue, which there are many, and put her plans in motion. and that’s it, case closed.
• Well….It’s amazing…I was not aware that all of the OC register readers that made comments are in favor or racist remarks and encouraging socialist ideals such as in donating other people money….you are all so creative! as for the one that said…spend it in Tijuana….and the other that said Kruegar was an anglo name…GO BACK TO SCHOOL…YOUR LAST NAME DOES NOT DETERMINE YOUR IMMIDIATE ETHNICITY! their are “Stephen’s” in Mexico, “O’Reilly’s” in Cuba, and many other “non Spanish” last names in all of latin america…IGNORANCE IS ON THE ABBUNDANCE LEVEL TODAY!
I cannot believe this family’s selfishness is even news worthy. I applaud Disney.
SELFISHNESS??? Sweetie there aint no “selfishness” here. this family is the best. Stop hating on a successful & independent woman here.
If you have ever seen the MTV show they are talking about you would fully understand why Disney doesn’t want to be associated with it. It portrays spoiled, selfish kids acting as rude as possible to parents and friends in the name of a party. good for you Disney for saying no. If a parent wants to spoil a kid like this it’s there right, but lets see how this girl is in about 10 years…. lets hope there is a college fund also..
Though this kind of spending is outrageous, those of you saying she should spend it on her education? She only referenced saving for this party in particular…who is saying she didn’t also start saving for her education? For her wedding? For anything else?
BTW- she probably didn’t ask about the taping when she signed the contract because she didn’t know it was something to plan for. People tape wedding receptions, parties, etc ALL the time. Why would the Mom think a production crew would be any different?
I agree with Disney, though, but those of you jumping to conclusions just look silly.
“People tape wedding receptions, parties, etc ALL the time. Why would the Mom think a production crew would be any different? ”
Really? My 16 year old sister is smart enough to know that there’s a difference. Why would the mom know? Because she works in the business world. If she’s not smart enough to know that, then I sure as heck don’t trust her to be distributing medical supplies.
She knew there would be issues, they just thought they could pull a fast one on Disney. Too bad that Disney is one of the top companies that you just don’t try to mess with.
These shows endorse, feed into, inspire, and glorify spolied rotten brats and the mom here just proves that the apple does not fall far from the tree.
The people on here that are making comments about how someone should spend their money crack me up. While I wouldn’t pay this much for a coming of age party they have every right to.
Perhaps this is every dime they have and want to spend it this way. Maybe it is just a drop in the bucket for them. Who knows? I sure don’t. This may be why they live in La Palma instead of moving to Newport Beach just to live in an expensive house.
All those that say they should give the money to charity or to feed the poor, how many of you do that? Do you think about going out to eat and think if I staye home I could donate the cost of the meal to a charity? Surely you can eat for less at home. Do you buy a cheaper car and donate the difference between what you paid and what a new BMW would cost? If so, go ahead and complain, if not why don’t you? Same theory just smaller dollars. Do any of you know if she already donates money to needy causes?
I agree that Disney has every right to say no.
FRIEND-YOU ARE CONFUSED I THINK MOST ALL RESPECT AND ADMIRE ANYONE WHO HAS WORKED HARD AND ROSE TO THE TOP……..BUT TO HAVE A 15 YR. OLD “FLAUNTING” HER PARENTS WEALTH WITH THEM RIGHT BEHIND HER IS DISGUSTING. HER PICTURES SHOW SHE IS AN ARROGANT SPOILED BRAT. YOU CAN PRACTICALLY HEAR THE STOMPING OF HER FEET!
Sorry to disappoint you but those pictures unfortunately do not depict reality. She happens to be an extremely sweet and caring girl, and is far from arrogant.
sure say what you want, but the pictures sure do! have you listened to her talk. all she did was brag about everything while her mother complained.
Great that the Mom has the financial means to do this, but really, $150,000?
Looking past the money, the problem I have here is twofold:
Typical of the Youtube generation to think they deserve to be on the stoplight for doing nothing.
How does paying to rent something give you the right to get whatever you want?
Maybe it’s the editing of the article, but the quotes of this girl and her Mom make is sound like today’s typical self-serving generation that thinks the world should revolve around their desires.
I know its part of tradition friend but you do not need to spend that much money on tradition. That is crazy. Times are hard for people right now and this lady and her daughter are throwing a fit because they can’t have a film crew for her birthday. Get over it. If one of my family members or friends was doing this I would say the same thing to them. Sounds like they need to build a bridge and get over it.
Oh and one more thing. If they knew they were trying to get mtv involved then they should of thought of asking Disney in the first place. Disney gets enough bad publicity on their own they don’t need a 15 year spoiled brat and her mom helping. Disney don’t back down you are right on this one
Hey! Would “friend” be so much in the defense of that spoiled, pouting brat had she not been invited to that pretentious PARTAY. I’m thinking, “NO”!
That’s what I’m saying! Lol!
To Friend: I think the issue most have is not with spending the money, if you have it then it’s your money to spend. The issue is with the sense of entitlement they seem to have. Just because you have money to spend doesn’t mean you can buy the world and everything you want is at your beck and call. This family is throwing a hissy fit because they aren’t allowed to film for, what some may see as, a trashy show that goes against what the Disney image is supposed to portray.
Quote:
“Who is Disney to say, ‘No,’ because we’re paying them,” Kreuger said. “I really want Disney to see the stress they caused. All my life I wanted to have a big quince, and (MTVtr3s) has the big shows and all the drama, and I wanted that too.”
So again Ms. Kreuger is portraying herself as a whiny little brat who thinks money can buy what ever she pleases. Both mom and daughter need to grow up and find another venue to host the party that will allow the taping if that is what she wants. Disney has all the right to say no and it doesn’t matter if she is paying them, it’s just money they don’t own the rights to this company. This is life……they need to come back down to earth and realize just because it’s what they wanted and they have money to spend it doesn’t mean they will get their way. End of story.
BRAVO SM!!
You guys are so ingorant …! If you are a successful Latin Woman that has worked hard to give her family the best its a bad thing? I don’t think so!
As a Latin Woman myself I know the importance of a Quinceanera to our Latin American Families…Its like telling a Jew don’t celebrate your
“Bar Mitzvah”…also Disney can be very selective on how they handle situations specialy if they have nothing to gain. The bottom line is because of people like them Disney is in Business!!
And you are missing the freakin’ point! It is not that they have the money and are choosing to spend it this way that is disgusting. It is their childish “I have money so I should get everything I want” whine that is disgusting. Does everyone deserve an entire article in the newspaper whenever they don’t get what they wanted?
do you deserve to blog?
Folks, check out this article this will make you feel better and forget this story.
http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20090507/ts_alt_afp/lifestyleushomelessmarriagehousing_20090507074519
That was a nice story and it would be even nicer if Miss Krueger would tell her mom she wanted to donate part of the $150,000 to help the couple in the other story out.
Just two words: Spoiled Brat
one word for you.. HATER!
KAILA: “SPECIALY”? And you are calling us ignorant? Please consult a dictionary if you are going to attempt at blogging!
I feel really sorry for all of you very angry people…their are better things to be upset about. Stop attacking and do something useful today!
Just another example of the excesses in SoCal.
This little spoiled brat deserves all the pain she is receiving. We are breeding a society of “look at me brats”
This is a big event for Latin Americans… who are all you guys to judge and call chelsea a spoil brat! She deserves to have what ever she wants and if her mother has the money to spend it on her then i dont see nothing wrong with that. When all her mother does is work hard and provide her kids a good living, and all you guys are saying why spend so much in a qunicianera? well why not if its worth it. Many of you would of loved to be in chelseas place.. or better yet have a mother like hers!! Disney should see that having Mtv3s be in this event will help them open more contracts with latins in the future! However, obviously many of you are NOT latins so you will NEVER understand the importance of a quincianera! since many of you are writting ignorant stuff about this family….Shame on all you people for insulting a 14 year old! and just so you all know… “spending all this money on a quince is not to show off, its to make her party a dream come true!
gooo chelsea! =)
Evy
I think you need to study the history of the qunicianera.
The meaning of the ceremony has changed over the centuries; today, the celebration is becoming more popular in the United States than it is in Mexico. Quinceaños celebrated in the United States represent the family’s economic and social status. The ceremony has become a need to celebrate, so that Mexicans can preserve their culture as they become more Americanized. Quinceaños separate Mexican culture from any other in the United States.
As a latin male I believe this ceremony has become as outdated as a celibate priests.
ROSI, get it right. The spoiled pouting brat and her Mommy are the angry ones. This never should have made iot to the papers. GO DISNEY!
OCJAY905…the argument in the paper does have to do with Disney…i agree there and I support disney in their decision but I am sure glad that negative people like yourself don’t control anything else but your keyboard and mouse! oops…I am assuming that is all you do….ASSUMING IS A VERY BAD THING…
Look, Gay905 you should try getting a LIFE… It’s sad to see a “Guy” like you sitting here bashing on a 14 year old!!! You need to learn how to respect others and their dicisions, you are NO ONE to them and if her mom has the money she can use however she wants to, and plus this is between Disney and the family not Gay905 and his pointless remarks!!!
lmao cindy hahahaha
OOPS……”it” my bad!
YOU GUYS SHOULD ALL GET A LIFE AND STOP SAYING NONSENSE! LET THIS MOTHER SPEND AS MUCH AS SHE WANTS FOR HER DAUGHTER! AND DISNEYLAND SHOULD ALLOW THIS GIRLS DREAM COME TRUE…. ALL LATINS SHOULD BE UNITED! AND SUPPORT THIS FAMILY!!!
and yet here YOU are posting just like everyone else .. mabee u should take your own advice and get a life too … and drop the caps lock
ocjay905…. i bet you have never been able to even have a party on your own… since you keep commenting the girl being a spoile brat!
its such a shame that people like you just talk out of your ### … having nothing else to do!
you go chelsea!!! make you party as big as you want!
forget all this people hating on you!!!!
DISNEY!!! LET HER HAVE IT!!
Disney IS letting her have it. They’re not stopping her at all from having her huge party.
They’re simply stopping her from broadcasting the spoiled brat-fest to the whole world. And for that I’m truly grateful.
BOOOOH DISNEY IM NOT TAKING MY KIDS THERE ANYMORE!
good
Awesome .. that means people wont have you ruining their good time.
Oh Sillyface, you’ve just become my favorite person.
Everyone that is saying negative comments on this FAMILY, doesn’t know this family. They do give to Charity, they help the poor like me and they are very intelligent, unlike all of know that speak without knowing.
For your info Chelsey will be going to a University being a straight A student. So all of you how think she is a spoiled brat, need to think again. Maybe you should look at your own kids and the way you are bring them up.
Mrs Vargas go on with your PARTY, i’m sure its going to be beautiful and glamourous.
The way you send your money is your business and no know else.
Always,
Then Chelsea must have never took any business courses while still in high school?
They probably don’t provide those type of classes in high school for a student her age. She must have learned everything from mom?
The way you’re rattling off “facts” makes it sound like you personally know the family….
….but you don’t even know how to spell the girl’s name correctly?
Something’s fishy here…
HEY OCJAY905 YOU REALLY DONT HAVE ANYTHING TO DO ? ALL YOUR DOING IS JUDGING PEOPLE YOU DONT KNOW!!! LET THEM DO WHAT EVER THEY WANT!!!!!
YOU GO LATINOS!!!!!! WOOH WOOH
BOO DISNEY!
“YOU GO LATINOS!!!!!! WOOH WOOH
BOO DISNEY!”
From what I deduce from that, you’re saying that Latinos are exempt from complying with official contracts? You’re a shame among the good of Latinos. What would Cesar Chavez say to you? You paint all Latinos with dirt, ignorance, and impracticality. Maybe you should clean your way Chica!
You go RR.
Just because you are a Latino does not exempt you from changing the language of a contract unilaterally.
If mom is unhappy with the contract as it stands now hire an attorney to change it.
This mother should be ashamed of herself. What a gross display of poor parenting and lack of a moral compass.
lack of moral? go raise children on your own hahahaha. her mom knows how to raise her children Kiristina!!!
Every mother “knows” how to raise a child. The question is: is it proper?
Do you really think spoiling someone is right?
No it isn’t but this is just a once in a lifetime thing.
Perhaps Disney is a bit more classy than MTV. I do believe Disney holds itself to higher standards than MTV. Do you even watch MTV? I stopped watching MTV on a regular basis years ago because I do not want my educated mind to be exposed to the ghettoness MTV has transitioned into.
Yes, this is a major event for this girl however Disney has every legal right to deny MTV taping. If this girl is set on being on a lame MTV show she should consider moving her party and dealing with the consequences of breaking her contract. It obviously was not truly important to her to be on the show otherwise she would have mentioned this during the party planning or she would be willing to shell out more money to break her contract and hold her coming out elsewhere.. Cameras and MTV crew would have to be considered for the event layout. I sure hope this girl and or her mother did not contact the Register in attempts to change a corporations policy. I would be ashamed if this was my daughter acting out like a wannabe diva…there are more important things in life other than partying and money. Hopefully this girl will encounter situations to open her mind.
She has wanted to do the show for a while and she knew is was a possibility when they started filling out the contracts. Disney would never want a show like this. Have you ever watched it. MTV portrays all these girls to be spoiled, crying, annoying brats. If this girl really is a sweet girl then doing this show would be wrong.
schadenfreude!!
all these people are sooo happy that this girl didnt get her way. what a messed up life they must have for being so happy at someone elses misery. especially when it doesnt even affect their own lives.
what a bunch of losers in here.
Yes, it does make me smile that this spoiled little brat wanted to put herself on display and make a spectacle of herself on MTV, and that her parents actually supported that desire. And it also makes me smile that when they didn’t get their way they decided to take their story public and attempt to shame Disney into letting MTV film their party. Ultimately, what makes me smile, is that their plan is coming back and biting them in the behind, because all this story does is makes them look like a bunch of out-of-touch, more-money-than-brains, whiny, spoiled brats with an inflated sense of entitlement. “Disney won’t let MTV film my party, I’m going to tell the newspaper!” Please.
This quote sums it all up:
“Who is Disney to say, ‘No,’ because we’re paying them,” Kreuger said
In other words, because I have money, people should do whatever I tell them. Sorry honey, despite what your parents have obviously taught you, that is not the way the world works.
Mark,
“what a messed up life they must have for being so happy at someone elses misery”
This misery is self inflicted and brought forward by them. Disney did not go to the Register did they? And where is the “official” response from MTV?
Who signed the contract with Disney? Who tried to change the contract with Disney? Who pouted and cried and went to the newspaper when they could not change the contract?
Let us get the facts straight.
it doesnt affect our lives but if your going to put it out there expect a response good or bad
you are right! expect good or bad! but most of all these people just comment to be stupid when its not a laughing matter! all they do is hate at people who are at a different level there in
i agree with lizi (:
Gee MARK, when did Disneyland and the register move to Torrance? You like others in L.A. County looking for favor with the 15 year olds here in the “OC”?
FIRST OF ALL !
you guys have no right to make a judgement on her saying she is a spoiled brat or anything, cause none of you guys even know her. if you guys really got to know her you guys would know that she tends to care more about other people then she does about herself. & just cause most of the girls that come out on those shows are spoiled & stuff. that doesnt mean she is. you people cant judge herr. & you guys dont even know how much time & effort her mom has put into it.
& so what if she is spending alot of money? its her money let herr spend it the way she wants to. cause i never saw half of you people helping her make that money. her mom worked hard for her money ! so i dont know why you people are saying that she should spend it on something else.
& i believe Disneyland should let herr film it. she is paying them to have it there & the could get more people to throw parties there? they could get a good outcome out of it too. i dont know why they are saying no. i find it very stupid. its her quince & its a closed/private party so why not let her record?
We have every right to judge… these people put themselves on display for judgment and ridicule. Did they really think that reasonable people where going to sympathize?
Sure, she has the right to spend her money however she wants… we have the right to think she is shallow and vapid and to pity her.
Actually, no you do not. You do not have the priveledge to ridicule someone. It’s like saying Shutterbug is a BITTER ignorant moron. The difference between that accusation that the derogotory comments that have you made upon this family is this; that accusation i just said is TRUE. Your accusations are FALSE.
You need to spend YOUR money on some counseling.
ooo some counsiling.. U think Her mommy will pay for it so we can all feel better about her spoiled little girl. ohh and btw shutterbug is correct … they asked for this when they went public with this travesty of a story. What the the matter .. dont like being called stupid and spoiled. well the truth hurts . and your deffensive posture tell me that most of these comments are really hitting home.
Yeah, I was with you up until the last paragraph. If the nudists were having a party in the next ballroom should they be allowed to “get comfortable”? They’re paying them and it’s a closed/private party. What about Al Queda? No matter who rents the room, it’s Disney’s property and they have the last say on how their rooms are used.
Miss Kelly
There are so many words misspelled that it hard to understand what point you are trying to make.
If she really is truly caring and not a brat, then perhaps she would have passed on this type of show because of the message it is carrying to their viewers.
To me she is saying she accepts that type of behavior, so I find your argument unbelievable.
I agree that mom is “entitled” to spend her money anyway she wishes. However I believe you are ignorant on how a contract works. Just because you are paying for a service does not entitle you to change it unilaterally.
As far as having Disney allow it because it would generate more business is just as ignorant as your other statements.
When people go to Disney to have a celebration they must abide by the rules and regulations set forth by the contract. Disney provides top notch parties, if not they would not be able to command the amount of fees the charge.
You are not educated on law and contracts to understand how they work in the business world.
Well sorry that I had so many spelling errors, I didn’t think I was writing an essay. Sorry I’m not perfect like you are. GET OVER IT ! No one cares if there are spelling errors besides you ! All I was saying is what I believe in and what I feel. So you know what? I personally don’t care on what you have to say. Because everyone has different opinions on everything. Its has absolutely nothing to do with you. & I’m in her quince so this stuff actually does matter to me. Whatever call me ignorant call me whatever you want, but it doesn’t matter to me cause I don’t know who you are & I can personally care less.
& I don’t understand why half of you people say you can make judgments on them, who are any of you guys to make judgments on anyone?
I don’t think you guys would like to get judged on so I don’t know why you guys can.
Half of you guys on here are ignorant!
Disney already makes $$$$$$ on the thousands of private parties they host. This girl’s isn’t the first, and the money they’re making off of it is a joke compared to the big picture of how much they rake in each year. They don’t NEED anymore quinceaneras. Large companies pay much more than this to rent out entire lands in the parks, people rent out rides like the Haunted Mansion for private family parties and dinners- the only difference is that they don’t do it simply to flaunt their money on national TV. This little quinceanera is honestly such a minor deal for them, and is not worth the drama.
The only thing Disney would get out of this is BAD publicity. A whiny girl who would make things up about how terrible the venue was, how a CM did something wrong, how the food was messed up, or anything else she (or MTV) could make up in order to create drama.
ANYONE that would spend this much money for a quinceañera is too stupid to have $150,000.00. Period. This is just stupid beyond belief.
THIS IS A GREAT EXAMPLE OF WHY PEOPLE WORK THERE A## OFF TO ACCOMPLISH THEIR GOALS, IM SURE YOU DONT KNOW WHAT THE MEANING OF THAT IS
Say what? A foolish waste of money is a foolish waste of money no matter how hard you work. And you don’t know what you are talking about.
Spence have some sense would you??? i am sure you dont even know what it is to have a quinceanera. & to have it go well. So if Marilin reached that goal of having so much money let her be. & i am sure that you would love to be in her place. cause i bet someone like you would probably waste the money in a FOOLISH way!!!
Yeah i do. Your just Jealous
FOR ALL OF YOU JEALOUS PEOPLE, who do NOT know this family… i feel this is too much explanation to give you, but this family is not only
-a generous family
-caring
-smart but most importantly LOVING family… something that most of you dont have, NEVER will have, and obviously dont know what it feels like.
Chelsea is a beautiful person not only in the outside but in the inside as well, a great student with fantastic grades.
Mrs Vargas is and has been a very hard working women since the age of 17 therefore she has what she has always worked for! so none of you have the right to tell her what to spend on her daughters quince.
Mrs Vargas have a fantastic and glamorous party!!
i shall see you there!
You are missing the point. The title of this article is “Disney denies filming of $150k quinceanera by MTV.” Frankly, if the family is well off enough that they can afford to spend that kind of money on a party, well, that’s certainly their prerogative, by all means, go have a blast.
According to the article, Chelsea said, “Who is Disney to say, ‘No,’ because we’re paying them I really want Disney to see the stress they caused. All my life I wanted to have a big quince, and (MTVtr3s) has the big shows and all the drama, and I wanted that too. I sent in, like, two videos — I was trying really hard, and they liked me. It gets me so mad that they’re not going to do this MTV thing.”
Let’s break this down:
1. Chelsea thinks that because “we” are paying Disney, then Disney should allow the filming.
2. Chelsea doesn’t think her $150k quince is going to be big enough because MTV won’t be there filming.
3. Chelsea is angry at Disney because they’re not going to allow it.
OK, now for a little bit of level six critical thinking on each point:
1.) First of all, “we,” as in “Chelsea and Marilin,” are not paying for it. Marilin is paying for it. Secondly, Disney has every right to prevent taping. You DO realize that MTV is one of Disney’s competitors, right? Why on earth would Disney allow another entertainment company to use their facilities? Also, the Disney spokesperson is absolutely correct: the show is probably not appropriate to the Disney brand. Considering the garbage that MTV typically puts out these days, Disney is PROTECTING IT’S BRAND NAME.
2.) If a party that’s costing some $150k and took ten years to save for isn’t going to be big enough and dramatic enough or cool enough, well, then I guess she’ll just have to make a LOT of money when you grow up.
Do you think the guests will REALLY want MTV’s cameras shoved in their faces the whole time? Ostentatious displays of wealth are generally rather tacky. Also, the quince is supposed to be for friends and family, right? So, how does the MTV audience qualify as either of those?
3.) Chelsea has absolutely NO right to be mad at Disney. She may not realize it now, but their decision is the right one, and it will be better for her over the long run, because hopefully she now realizes that money is not necessarily enough to get everything you want. If she thinks that $150k means ANYTHING AT ALL to Disney, well… it doesn’t.
I don’t care about the $150k. As I said, if you want to spend it, go for it. All I have here is a few comments on the internet and a short article about a girl who was told “no” by Disney. She’s not spending enough for Disney to allow filming by a competitor - not even close, I expect - but for some reason when denied, she starts whining about “stress” and being “so mad.”
It seems fairly clear that she carries a sense of entitlement. That’s one of the WORST attitudes anyone can have, and that kind of damage is almost always inflicted by a parent who doesn’t say “No.” to their child nearly often enough.
Spot on, Paul. It’s all about running to the newspaper because her $150,000 party got ruined, and caused so much “stress”, just because they can’t have the party on national TV…..Get in the real world, Mom, and see what others have to pout about.
Paul
Dude. Spot on!

I never knew that there was so many hurtful people with no concern over with other’s feelings. …blogs are unhealthy…she is 15, get a grip people….stop being vicious!!!! i imagine all of you have some very sad issues in the background…
fyi…the 150,000.00 party is helping the economy! Get a grip people!
I am truly saddened to see all the negative remarks that people have made about this great mother and beautiful daughter. The story is about Disney denying them the taping. Their disappointed comments have been misjudged by so many of you. You have focused only by reflecting on their fortune and bashed them for it. I wonder how many of you would truly address this issue differently if you had the means to achieve it. What has happened to this society? People are so wrapped up in their own misery that they can not see outside the box. Now suddenly if someone is successful they are ridiculed. What gives anybody the right to judge and suggest what others could or should do with their money? If you can afford a Mercedes, would you buy a Toyota? If she went and complained to the Press, so be it! It’s her right to do so, for whatever intentions she may have, whether she is right or wrong. Nobody who lives in a glass house should be throwing stones. People need to stop playing the “SELF RIGHTOUS CARD.” I’d like to see how some of you would really spend your money if you had it to spare. People can use it as they please, it’s their choice.
People live your lives, and stop bashing on people you don’t know. Especially OCJay905. Good grief you’ve posted at least 12 comments on this article today. Don’t you have something better to do?
I realize everyone is going through hard times, but don’t demean, assume and misjudge someone because they are more fortunate then you are. Consider how events of this magnitude can improve our economy. We need lots and lots of more parties like this. If someone has the means GO FOR IT!!!
All of your derogatory remarks are simply based on envy. The suggestions regarding pregnancy are SICK!!! Get your minds out of the gutter. How dare you demean the virtue of a teenager based on her monetary status!
The RACIST remarks are ignorant and disgusting! Remember this great country is a melting pot. So, unless you are a NATIVE AMERICAN, you better eat your words, or try to get back on the ship that your ancestors came from.
Well said.
Most people aren’t complaining about the money she’s spending, they’re complaining about the sense of entitlement that this girl is showing. If she was handling this situation maturely, and not whining like a spoiled brat, there would not be this issue.
And as for how others are spending their money, read the comment about my 12k wedding. People make decisions everyday about how to spend their money. Their decisions are never criticized nor applauded because they are mature enough and are not FLAUNTING their financial decisions.
How sad for those that condemn successful people that want to give their daughter the best! What’s wrong with saving, working hard and bringing happiness to your family. This is a hispanic tradition that she wants to give her daughter, good for her! We are behind you!!! Cudos to you that can give your daughter the best!!!!!! Only liberals and other’s believe that wealthy people are bad…… Private sector’s are the driving machine of this country and Marilyn is one of them! God Bless you!
wow, if it’s tradition to give my daughter a $150k party that she’s not even grateful for, I’m so relieved I’m not from a hispanic heritage. Phew.
And before you say it- No, she’s not grateful. If she was, she would simply be content that she was still getting her party. She wouldn’t be throwing a big stink because she doesn’t get to flaunt it to the nation.
wow , i am a 15 year old girl that would have dreamed of having a quince that chelsea is having , it’s a dream come true for young latina girls & this is like a day you can never get back. i am one of chelsea’s good friend & i am a dama participating in her quince, i do know how important this is to her & her mother ! her mom is spending a lot of money for this party & for her daughters dream to come true & disney wont allow MTV come, yet her mom is paying them TONS of money & it really shouldn’t be there choice if they can come or not. MTV coming would be like a dream come true for her & i know how much she would want it to happen ! people dont understand want a quince is & if they would they would be a little bit more considerate rite ! she is not spoiled her mom just has the money yet WORKS hard like any mother does for it, so people shouldn’t be so quick to judge when they don’t even know the real truth, her mom has been saving since chelsea was a little girl & things just need to go right ! MTV should be able to come & disney shouldnt be so worried about it when they are getting there big chunk of cash, LET HER BE FILMED ,
MTV can be there guest & then what will they say !
GO CHELSEA !
You may be right that MTV could come and tape it. But they probably wouldn’t be able to show it on TV and they probably know it. Do you think MTV would be willing to do this for free without getting any return on it? Yeah, me neither.
Spoken like a true child! I want my way, I want my way, I want my way!!!
Adel,
You really need to proof read what you write. Your spelling is terrible. But I guess we can blame this on the English teachers, right?
It is also apparent you do not understand contracts. Your emotions are showing above the legal and contractual aspects of this situation.
I do applaud your support of your friend, but a contract is a contract.
Mom signed a contract for a party but not to have it filmed or taped. Both parties must agree to change the contract. Disney did the right thing. Mom did not. Disney did not allow the original contract to be altered. Mom wants to add something that was not included in the contract.
What is not to understand?
Yes honey, it should be their choice. You get those kind of rights when you’re a privately owned fortune 500 company. When someone decides to have a party on their property, they play by their rules. If you don’t like them, then you go somewhere else. Nobody forced her to have it there.
This is the real world, and it’s about time that teenagers learn that they can’t always have what they want. There are rules, and no amount of money makes you exempt from them.
How do you even spend $150,000 on a birthday party?
I am 14 and I really wanted for my mom to have my quince at Disneyland. But she was let go with another 1400 Disney employees.
so sad

It is sad. So what do you think of a mom spending $150k on a quince?
Maybe if you contact Chelsea, she may invite you to her party?
The only thing this mother is doing, is raising a high maintenance, gold digging brat.
As the doughter of a refugee who came to this country in search of FREEDOM, she should be allowed to do with her money as she wishes. I know there are rules and regulations, but make sure they are always the same to all, for this could have expensive law implications in the future. Big Wigs at Disney, please make an exception, for this girl is a full blooded spanish descendent.
I hope you know Mr. Walt Disney’s GENIOUS, came directly from the spanish parents who biologically gave him life. He later made something of his adoptive name, unheard of before him. It is a small world after all. ha?
Disney isn’t stopping her from doing anything with her money!!! They’re letting her have the party, they’re letting her spend $150k, they’re catering, they’re providing the CMs to work it, they’re giving her the venue— every one needs to be reminded that Disney is not stopping her party!
They’re simply keeping her from broadcasting their company in a bad light and associating the venue with something that is so opposite of what the company stands for.
Why should they make an exception to a contract that is used for all events like this? Simply because of her heritage?? That’s the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard.
Luis,
It doesn’t matter where you originated. She is entitled to do as she wishes with her money. The rules are the same for everyone unless you can prove discrimination.
Who cares if she is a full blood Spaniard?
Please read the article and re do your blog.
No I think you’re wrong. Please point to where Walt is of Spanish parents?
Read this: http://www.snopes.com/disney/waltdisn/illegit.asp
Props to Disney, And I’m not surprised they denied it.. While they may not mind the ‘in serious need of mental help’-mom paying $150k for the party, they certainly don’t want their name on TV(let alone MTV) condoning the sad attempt at getting her daughter on TV and hoping it kicks off some sort of career in it for her… “Spend $150k now, and when you become famous you can pay it back hundreds of times over.” - Greed, Fame, Fortune, Drama…blah blah blah.. We’ve all already seen it, her name is Brittany Spears, except she’s latina..
Wonder if enough bad press could be generated to get Disney to find a way to back out of the deal and REALLY tell em “NO”… lol
The headline says “Disney says NOW WAY”. . . was this written in India or has Disney given in and “NOW WAY” is the new hip expression?
adele - since you are a part of this gir’s “quince” you must be all of 15 or so yourself and do not understand, apparently, “private property” or “contractual” as legal terms. This girl is lucky she is learning this at 15 as her mom apprently did not and look at what she thought she could manipulate her way into. Your friend can have a beautiful dday without MTV and without pouting and without heer mother pulling cr*ap like this. I have read of some wonderful “coming of age”rites over the past few years where the honoree (who was assuming the role of maturity) chose to give tothe poor and homeless rathan than sourroud him/her self with the glory and goodies. A seoond less here that this girl is lucky to learn at such a early age is that money cannot buy everything. AHA, there’ also the lesson of being honest up front with your goals as this sneaking in MTV at the last minute didn’t gain the sympathy this woman thought it would. Everyone except those surrounding chelsea and her pout do see the deliberate attempted manipulation of Disney by this family. No means no.
Man, I wish there was this much energy put into healthcare reform, education, child welfare, etc. Too much blabbing about this topic. Move on people. Who cares.
You’re right. I’m going to bed.
This reminds me of the spoiled little girl on Charlie and the Chocolate factory. Maybe she’ll turn into a blueberry, too. I am happy with Disney’s decision.
“Disneyland says now way to taping of teenager’s $150,000 party”
what is NOW WAY?
She should be happy with a big tent, jumper/slide, DJ and disco lights like every other 15 year old Latina girl that lives on my street!
It’s too bad thus emphasis is placed on this event that $150,000 had to be spent. Sometimes people with money forget about how spending this kind of money is perceived by those that don’t have it. It’s theirs to do with as they wish; they earned it. But spending that kind of money looks pretty over-indulgent to mostly everyone else and pouting / complaining about someone saying “NO” comes across to some as self-centered. If that’s what they want their legacy to be, then have at it.
She better not apply for financial aid if and when she gets to college, that’s all I’ve got to say…
now=no?
I just got an instant headache reading this article and the blogs that support this. The mom should save that money for the therapy the idiot daughter is going to need when she sees what the “real world” is like.
Speaking of the word “like”…I am sick of today’s teens throwing it in whenever they like feel like it. I am so like tired of hearing it, like I am going to go like take an excedrin now to get rid of my like headache.
I am Hispanic. Let me confirm this for you: This is retarded!!!
Disney has a policy that does not allow professional cameras or video equipment on it’s property without their approval. As smart as this woman is (according to people on here), you think she would have verified all these details beforehand. If she’s got so much money, why not have it somewhere else. Now that would be a story. “Rich woman cancels $150k party at Disney because they won’t allow filming for TV show.”
Good for the Disney Hotel. Every hotel that I have had an invent at has a legal contract telling you up front what you can or can’t do. A lot of other people paid to stay at that hotel and being annoyed by an MTV crew is one of them. I wonder what the mom was getting from MTV for the invent.
“Disneyland says now way to taping of teenager’s $150,000 party”
Does this mean Disneyland has found a way to do taping or does it mean no one knows how to write at the Register? I think it’s door #2.
If I were Disney, I wouldn’t want MTV taping a show on my property. Over the years, the MTV empire has pushed moral values down into the gutter as far as they would go. It is almost like a horned devil was in charge of MTV programming. Disney trys to keep moral values at a respectable level. Part of the reason that today’s youth are full of body piercings, tatoos and bad attitudes is from copying the missfits that they watched on MTV.
What’s this spoiled brat gonna do for her senior prom, or her wedding (If she can find a guy dumb enough to support her in the manner she is used to)? Disney should have sent the whole thing to TacoBell…
The only reason why this is “news” is the family must have gone to the paper in an attempt to pressure Disney through the media. Shame on them. Sounds like mother and daughter are both spoiled brats.
I bet there was some money from MTV in it for them that would help offset the $150,000. This is a clear case of Disney standing up for their rights of they trademarks and property. I bet we aren’t hearing the whole truth from Mrs. Vargas.
What a piece of Crap.
I am disgusted beyond words. In this time of economic crisis with people losing jobs and homes - that anyone could be this wasteful of funds. Not to say the message given to the children. We are raising a generation of narcissistic children who think they are entitled to everything. This party is one of the most outragous things to do for a child!!!.
Did they not know that they were going to open a Pandora’s box when they went to the papers with this story? It is beyond me that in this day and age someone would have no concept of what is socially acceptable and no concept of how they are going to be perceived. If they were planning this for years and years, they still should have taken into consideration the current hard times people are suffering, and they should have kept their mouths shut, even if they felt they were wronged by DLand. I doubt you will find many sympathetic ears for their story right now.
The family should spend the money on interior decorating for their home. Did you see those pictures? Oh well, I guess money can’t buy good taste.
Oh, poor pouty mommy and daughter. Disney won’t let a show which spotlights spoiled daughters and ungrateful behavior to tape on its private property. “I really want Disney to see the stress they caused”, says Little Miss Entitlement. Can you imagine running to the newspaper about something like this, inviting the photographer into your (crassly decorated) home, pout amidst the lavish party favors, and expect the public to support them? Clueless.
A fool and her money are soon departed.
Two different themes here: Disney (sweet, charming, etc.) vs. MTV (raunchy and crude). They’ve got to see the distinction here.
What was the point of this quince? To celebrate this coming of age tradition or to be on MTV? The mother should be grateful that her work has afforded her the ability to throw such an event for her daughter and the daughter should be grateful to her mother for providing it, end of story. Through MTV (or any reality show) the editing/acting never turn out showing the cast of characters in a positive light. The family should take pride in the fact that they can now be themselves and truly enjoy the meaning of the celebration. Good for Disney to not allow the MTV taping.
All of my family had to work hard since we were kids and never had celebration for our 15th birthdays. Now, when we have some extra money to help the poor people and who in need. If you can save 1% of $150,000 to help your poor people in Mexico, you’ll be blessed by God.
“Some may ask whether $150,000 is too much to spend on a 15 year old’s birthday party.”
Good Lord, you have to ASK?
She needs to grow up and stop whining about her stupid party. What a spoiled little brat.
Why is this noteworthy?
“All my life I wanted to have a big…” why do I think that’s the phrase she’ll be using for when she’s planning her wedding and things aren’t going her way?
As a Hispanic, I think the amount of money people spend on these parties are ridiculous. I think a good big party is always awesome, but then it’s all about being over the top.. your not throwing a party.. your just showing off and it shows how much stupid stuff people sucked you into buying.
thank you!! some common sense!
It is what it is. The Mother lied. Maybe she should have just happened to have mentioned Filming. Disneyland is just in their decsion to say “no way jose” no pun intened. They are protected under copywrite, registered laws. WHY IS THIS EVEN NEWS!
I fail to see why she “needs” this. What’s wrong with the traditional one? Simple, age appropriate poblana dress, church service, everyone over for chocolate and treats afterward…
First, Disney correct, contract did NOT include rights.
Secondly, SHAME ON ALL OF YOU that don’t want this BRAT to have a $150,000 party. This is being paid to DIsney and will be used to PAY the SALARY of their employees. If rich people are not paying for these OUTRAGEOUS things, then the dishwasher, cook, floor mopper, DON’T get paid.
Throw as many of these parties as they can, and maybe someone will get a job out of it.
The amount spent or the reason it is beiing spent is the SPENDERS business not yours. It’s their money.
The dining hall is Disney’s, they say no Taping and broadcast rights, their business(correct in this case).
Catering and event contracts have gotten very sophisticated in their language particularly over the last 12 years or so. I remember when a hotel contract was 1 or 2 pages max, and now the most recent one I signed was about 7 pages. You have to read them very carefully. The contract is designed to reserve the rights and protect the interests of the service provider (hotel, golf club, convention center, etc.) only… not your interests.
Think about your event in advance and any of the “what-if” scenarios as you review the contract. If there is something you want to change, then discuss it with your event coordinator. There are some things they can’t budge on, but I have found in the most part for most major venues that they are more than willing to work with you. If there is something you really want amended and they won’t budge, walk away and find another venue that WILL give you what you want.
Very few times in recent years have I been able to sign one of these new 7-page contracts without crossing something out and/or changing some words so that I was comfortable with signing.
Once both parties have signed, it is supposed to be a very clear understanding of the expectations, rights and obligations that each party has to the other.
And by all means, if you are going to spend a significant amount of money for a party or event, consider seeking out a professional event planner to represent your interests rather than going it alone.
I don’t believe either of the parties acted their best here. Disney could have easily come back to say they can not and will not provide cart blanc taping privileges without clear and concise ground rules that spell out (in a separate contract) the things that are clearly unacceptable to them. That could include that there would be absolutely no mention of the Disney brand or that Disneyland Hotel was the location of the event. On the contrary , If I worked in Disney Resort Sales, I would probably advocate that the name and logo be plastered everywhere possible as a “product placement” arrangement.
I also think Disney has missed an opportunity here. What better depiction of a princess like their own animated fairy tales than a debutant celebrating at her coming-of-age party. The resort folks should currently be on the phone to the studio to pitch this.
WOW… Didn’t realize I had this much comment on the subject till I saw the word count!
There is no way that Disney would allow this without creative control of the final product, which MTV would not allow. It’s a whole Disney-themed party, with her arriving in Cinderella’s carriage and all that. Have you seen this show? It’s about over-the-top parties given for over-entitled girls by over-indulgent parents. Yay Disney for just saying no.
This family put themselves out there by going to the papers. They have a right to spend their money however they want, but if they make it public and complain about the “stress” Disney has caused them, then we (the public) have the absolute right to judge and comment.
How’s this media campaign working out for you, Indulgent Family? Not quite working out to expectations? Just be quiet and go enjoy your $150,000 kid’s birthday party….
So Disney should write a separate contract for every single thing that they think MIGHT be an issue? And if the mom had been upfront and said something in the very beginning about their intentions with MTV, Disney would have explicitly told them of their policies regarding something like that. Disney can’t just guess at everyone’s intentions and make sure to cover the bases vocally for everything that they think MIGHT be an issue. That’s what contracts are for.
And the only reason that contracts have gotten so much longer is because our society is so sue-happy these days that companies have to cover ALL their bases, even ones they never think they’ll need.
Carma
You just don’t get it. Two different brands of identity. There is no way that Disney would allow MTV to tape. First, could you trust MTV to do the right thing?
This would cost thousands of dollars for litigation when MTV broke the language of the contract. (might be good for attorneys).
You probably would not last long at Disney for prostituting yourself out to a company like MTV.
Disney has tried to maintain a wholesome family image while MTV…well you know what kind of image MTV is pushing.
Disney did not miss an opportunity but rather gained positive recoginition for this. For standing up to individuals who go outside the contract and try to bully them into changing the contract.
People will now want to book more events at Disney for the image they are creating.
If you want trash TV go to MTV. If you want an experience to cherish, Disney is the place.
They saved the money, so it is not like they’re going broke. But I have a very good feeling that because Viacom owns MTV and Disneyland is Disney, there’s going to be major business conflicts of interest.
However 150K for a coming-of-age party is way beyond ridiculous! Oh the humanity.
I get a kick out of how these comment sections always seem to turn into anonymous flame wars no matter what the article is about. Anyways why is this story news? Who cares what these people are doing. Good for the mom that she was able to save up that money and provide her child with an elaborate party. To those people who always bring up the point of there are poor and starving people in the world and this is a waste of money, wake up there have always been and there will always be poor and starving people no amount of money will change that. However there are much more important things going on in this world then a 15 year old girl who can’t have MTV tape her quinceanera, therefore the ludicrousness lies in the fact that so many people are so upset over such a pointless news article. Who cares, grow up, get over it, and move on…nothing to see here.
Such a non story about a primadonna.
I’m wondering if the mother was depending on the stipend given by MTV in order to fund this party, and that’s why she’s so upset?
I can’t believe they are making this article an issue, she has the right to have her quince, but all she wants is to be on t.v.Thats why she went to the paper, she wants attentantion, She already has paid for it, only thing she crying about is for the taping of it. Her mom and dad can buy video camara and record it themselves, and have it for their memories and stop wasting everyones time. Just enjoy everything . Honestly I would have bought my daughter a new car and some other things with that kind of money, but that’s just me.
The girl needs to get a job, learn some people skills, learn how the real world works.
Hey Friend
Are you by any chance involved with planning this event for them? I wouldn’t be surprised! I mean, you keep coming back and defending them. So sad!
man I love those Mini Sirloin Burgers…… mmm tasty
yippee ki a mini sirlion burgers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Woot
15…
Time for somebody to start looking for a job…maybe then she’ll know exactly how much $150,000 is…
Y’all criticize these stories, and loathe these offensive shows, yet look…280 comments. I’m sure MTV has noted your outrage, and is thrilled. They got your attention; you took the bait. Ratings=$. There is no such thing as bad publicity. If this story upsets you, forget it. Don’t watch these types of shows. It’s like the lady with all those babies…if the public loses interest, the story fades away quickly. Enough said.
Don’t know about you folks, but I bet that young girl is in for one heck of a wedding!
well luckily enough, they’ve already got a show ready and waiting for her- Bridezillas.
Not if she gets married at Disneyland.
The woman and her kid are both idiots..and so is everyone in this thread that stands up for stupid spending such as this.
Class tells.
For $150,000.00 you can buy the entire city of La Palma…
Good for Disney! $150k for a kids party?! That’s nuts. These goofy parties are out of hand. MTV was invented by the Devil.
Oh, poor deprived thing. (world’s smllest violin playing). Wait, WHO CARES?
I’ve seen both shows on MTV networks and they bring out the worst in the young girls involved. I find it hard to believe Disney’s marketed image would mesh with these tasteless shows. In a time when many people have lost their homes, jobs and health benefits it seems very insensitive on the part of this Family to spend $150,000 on such an affair. And after this event what will this (it’s all about me) daughter want for her wedding. Usually when things get tough economically those with means lower their profile and slash the ostentatious. I think it is very foolish on the part of this Father to advertise that he has $150,000 cash at hand. Crime usually goes up when people are hungry. It reminds me of that poor girl… what was her name? Oh yeah Marie Antoinette. It’s said she uttered something about “let them it cake”.
Is anyone else getting totally offended over MH29’s continued use of the word “retarded?” In addition to Chelsea’s mommy not teaching Chelsea the realities of life, MH29s mommy is faililng in a few areas too.
NO:) My mom has raised me perfectly thanks
My 16-year-old daughter’s Spanish teacher mentioned to the class how she never had one of these parties as a teen. My girl and her friends threw her a surprise party at school one day, and she broke down and cried.
A handful of 10th-graders got together and put a makeshift party together, and it probably meant more to this teacher than
Let me get this straight: we have men and women dying in war; people losing their jobs and homes and this over-the-top party is news worthy? I don’t have issues with Mom being able to pay the tab—good for her. But to make such a fuss over not being able to tape the fiesta for MTV?? Do you see the face on that spoiled mug of hers? She’s enjoying it all. Some way, some how that girl was going to get her 15 minutes. Move on OCR…report the news.
How about paying Disney to tape it….as a princess fairy tale type of deal. That way the family will have their memories preserved professionally. I mean, they’re already spending $150K…what’s another few grand? At her rate of savings, she’ll be able to pay it off in less than a year!
How about paying Disney to tape the event or any professional company that Disney will allow? That way the family can have their memories preserved. And once the family owns the rights to that video tape, they can use it however they choose. Send it in to MTV later…..or post it on Youtube!
MTV and Disneyland?
MTV is trash.
“I’ve saved money for ten years,” said Vargas, who owns a medical-supply company. “It’s a very important part of growing up. I didn’t charge anything to my credit card; I didn’t go bankrupt. I planned this.”
I’ve had to buy medical supplies and they are a total rip off!
MTV and Disney have vastly different styles. Disney is for General Audiences and MTV is for a slightly older crowd. Let’s face it, “Girls Gone Wild” is hardly in the same crowd as “Lilo and Stitch.”
I am a little shocked at the extravagance for a 15th birthday. We have family and friends over, have a barbecue, enjoy some cake, and exchange gifts under $10. We did nothing more than that for any birthday our children had from ages 1 through 23. I don’t think they suffered.
@Rosi
Just out of curiosity, why did Chelsea and Marilin bring this to the attention of the newspaper? I mean, really, the idea just doesn’t seem very well thought-out. I hope that they both see this thread. There’s good and bad points being made here, from a lot of different perspectives. But you read the article, like all of us, and frankly, Chelsea comes off as being totally spoiled.
Maybe she’s not. I don’t know her or Marilin. As I said in a previous posting, all I have to go on are the facts contained in the article, and a couple of comments left on this board. But from the things she said to the paper, I can only conclude that she has a massive sense of entitlement… not good.
Lessons learned, perhaps?
1. Public display in this day and age means that you invite public scrutiny and public criticism.
2. Disney will do whatever it has to in order to protect its brand, and no, trying to amend a contract worth only $150k at the last minute, to allow a competitor’s film crew onto their property, is never going to happen.
3. Attempting to drum up some sympathy by a “woe is me” newspaper article is generally a bad idea.
3. Posing for the newspaper photographer with the pouty lips and puppy dog eyes is totally unacceptable. It’s pathetic and contrived and trite. Your mother ought to be furious at that - it’s not like your house burned down.
4. When being interviewed for an article, try to maintain some sense of decorum and graciousness, as opposed to being a whiny child.
I am quite sure that the party will go very well for everyone involved… I don’t share the same sense of outrage at the $150k price tag, but it’s Marilin’s money and she can do whatever she wishes with it.
I hope that Marilin reads the comments here and learns something from her daughter’s attempted foray into the public eye. Tell you what, maybe it’s better just to keep these sort of things in the family/friends area, rather than try to show off to the whole world. The rest of us aren’t very sympathetic, especially not when it comes to kids complaining to the newspapers about their $150k birthday party.
Chelsea, try not living out on the street for a week with no shelter, no friends, no food, no money, and no help. There are a lot of people in that exact situation these days, and your whining about Disney saying “no” to you about MTV makes you look like an idiot who can’t see past the tip of her own nose. “Me, me, me, ME!” is a singularly unattractive way to be, young lady. Time to grow up.
’nuff said.
I think you mean, “try living out on the… etc,” instead of “try not living out on the… etc.”
“Me, me, me”? Have you forgotten which generation we have? You see, there was the Beat Generation, Depression Generation, War Generation Baby Boom Generation, and X, Y and Z Generations, etc.
Today, we have the Entitlement Generation. After all, two-thirds of the Federal
Budget has already been earmarked as “Entitlements” by profligate politicians. They have said that each group of people are “Entitled” to this or that. No mention of “earned”, “worked for” or even “deserve”. They are just “Entitled”.
Now, we have multitudes of people who believe they are “entitled” to whatever their little hearts want. And oh do they stamp their feet (or break windows and loot) if they do not get what THEY feel “entitled to”.
Yes, we have a generation of spoiled whiners, created for you by your elected politicians!
Just because someone books a venue to hold their event does not also mean they are entitled to broadcast rights to tape on the premises. There is a big difference between shooting video for one’s personal memories and having a professional crew shooting for commercial uses. Disney is entirely within their rights and this spoiled girl and her family are wrong. Maybe they want to waste $150,000 on the lame tradition but money doesn’t mean they can get everything they want. Almost, but not quite in this instance.
This story is three days old already why did OCR put it back on the front page when there is REAL news to report. Oh O forgot, I can get REAL news at the http://www.latimes.com
It’s a small, small, super spoiled, pouty, “a $150,000 party isn’t enough, if I don’t get to be on MTV Mommie will complain to the newspaper and I’ll hold my breath until I turn blue”, world after all.
Marko50 says:
ampoormama, you’re so shallow. Poormama has every right to her views and more of us agree with poormama than than with you. So if $150K doesn’t buy “anything good in the way of housing in SoCa” but could only buy a decent car for kids to live in, Disney should buckle to these tyrants? The really funny part of this whole fiasco is that Disney has lost so many of their fans and supporters over the past year is regianing our support by this stand. I say back to you, “You’ve got a screwed up way of thinking.” The point is that mama has not right to tell the owner of private property that her money outweighs their contract. We challenge this spoiled child to give the money to charity, to feed the hungry, house the homeless, or clothe a child or a hundred children. All this and the angels are watching!
“I’ve saved money for ten years,”
If you’ve saved for 10 years to spend $150,000 on a party, you are not rich, you are stupid.
Instead of blowing that money on a party, which will be over and done with in one day, and forgotten in a month, you could have done so much more for the child, like college or university tuition, investment, or secured her future by giving her the money in a trust account.
Stop your whining lady. Boohoo you cant have it taped soo what.. whats stopping you from having a good time at the park, hotel? people think WOW i have money & it talks!! Umm no money comes along with greed.you DONT need money to have JOY! Nicholodeon (SP?) has already almost turned into a wanna-be MTV with there choice awards,video’s,ect.. Disney i dont think is going to put up with MTV coming in the tryin the same thing.. Disney doesnt have the best moral issues either but at least they put there foot down on this one
seriously? its a legal battle if anything…duh. you cant just broadcast anything…duh. you have to get consent from EVERYONE (400 people) at the party, plus any disneyland guest that may be in the shot…duh. and spoiled brats at disenyland tend to ruin the disney magic…
get over it. besides, backyard quinces are SO MUCH more fun anyway…
duh.
SMART!!!!! Way to go!!!!!! SPEND $150k for your SPOILED BRAT and then re-coup your expenses by selling the right to tape by MTV??? and possibly make more than $150k???? pretty soon cameras will be rolling in La Palma ????? are you somehow related to OCTU-MOM???
Opppppsssssss…….. I forgot something…
HAPPY MOTHERs DAY to YOU BOTH!! Marilin and Octu-mom.
CHELSEA, WHAT DID YOU do for MOM today????? Do you even know what day is today?
haha…seriously, her mom should have saved that money and used it for college…gees. i understand why a quince is important to the latino community…but, hey…you can have a great one for a fraction of 150,000. raise your hand: would you rather have a stuffy formal cinderella inspired party OR would you rather have fun, not worry about how expensive everythign is, and pop a few coronas in the yard? i mean…that’s how my bff did it…
Just a spoiled brat who gets everything this want — except this time. Well too bad. Besides, merely having one’s event catered at a location does not mean one receives all rights to that property, including such things as staging a commercial TV shoot. Disney is entirely within their rights. The girl and her mom booked a catered function, and that’s what they will get. They ought to read their booking agreement instead of crying to the press. Oh, but this “poor girl” just revels in all the attention — it’s all about me, me, me.
Octomom has some room at her hosue for the party.
Quincy? Is Jack Klugman going to reprise his role?
Cool!
WAY TO GO Disney!!!!!!!! I think you are right to stick to your guns n this one.
If someone wants to throw away $150,000 on a 16 year birthday party, that’s their choice. It’s an ignorant choice, but such is life. She is spoiling her daughter, and it’s a shame. As for the Disney no taping policy, it is their property, so it is their decision.
Can’t wait to see what kind of wedding she gets!
they should cancel the party and donate the $$ to help those in the fires….
Mom should’ve checked before blowing the money. End of story.
With that said, I can’t imagine why someone would need a birthday party (even an important one) that cost 150 grand….my 18th birthday, and my 21st were the time of my life, for under 100 bucks with family and friends. You know what they say about a fool and their money.
Go have the quinceanera party in mexico , thats where it started
your very ignorant, because the Quinceanera is a Latin tradition not only Mexican. An for the record she is not Mexican.
I wonder how “Mom” would feel if another medical supply company decided to use her location to film their commercial…
I really don’t think mom is as naive as she claims regarding the contract. She is a business woman. You’d think she would realize without looking at the contract even that this wouldn’t be allowed, regardless of the $ value.
The girl is a spoiled brat no doubt.
Disneyland is in the right here.
Mom didnt read the fine print.
End of story
Grammar Nazi’s are just as amusing as the ignorant
Just more spoiled rotten bimbos, ala Paris Hilton, who thinks the world owes them something.
To Chelsea (and all her friends on this board defending her):
First off - it’s your money, it’s been saved for this and though I think it’s an extremely poor use of it, that’s my opinion and my right to voice this as last time I looked I lived in America and it’s my right to do so.
Also, many of the comments about the amount of money being spent are by those who are older and have had to juggle jobs, bills, house payments, kids and in this economy - the loss of jobs, cars, houses etc. We see this amount of money and think “house payments or rent or food on the table” where this family sees “party”. Don’t take it personally - you will find out it’s not so easy. Hindsight is 20/20 and you young teens haven’t lived out in the real world and paid real bills and had real jobs where you work hard all week, receive your paycheck and say “that’s it?”
One note I do want to say is this:
To Chelsea and her mom - it appears when you planned this party MTV was not in the mix. You were fine and happy with the party you had planned before this - you need to go back mentally to that moment when you dreamed about this party when MTV wasn’t in the picture. Find that moment and move on happily with it, go and celebrate, have your party, enjoy your friends.
Disneyland is NOT keeping you from having the time of your life and enjoying your party - you, yourselves are doing that with your attitudes. A contract was made and signed with Disney and likely included the fact that any taping for commercial use must be pre-approved. Your party will still go on with or without MTV there!
Having worked (as has my kids) in the entertainment industry I will tell you that having MTV film your party will not be what you think it will be! You will be told what to do, where to stand, when to go, when not to go - every minute will be scripted and in the end you would probably find out that it wasn’t what you thought it was and you can’t ever go back and re-do it. You will have a MUCH more enjoyable time without the taping. If you want to be on TV get an agent and start with some background acting, take acting classes and do it that way.
Pouting and whining about Disney causing “stress” is just wrong. YOU yourselves are causing the stress. They have every right to decide what happens on their property at their venue - and it doesn’t matter how much you are spending. The contract and the rules are the same whether you spend $1000 or $100,000. They are in the right on this one.
You have two options - happily move on and enjoy the Cinderella party you have dreamt about or pay to get out of the contract and move it somewhere else where they will allow MTV to film.
I guess mom is really trying hard to play the sympathy card, I just found it on the KCBS2/KCAL9 (Los Angeles) website:
http://cbs2.com/local/Quinceanera.Disneyland.MTV.2.1005273.html
I, for one, am proud of Disney for standing their ground!
who cares how they spend their money. but to all sticking up for this family when they went to the paper they opened themselves up to these kinds of comments. we have a right to make comments just like they have a right to complain about Disney. I think most people are upset because what she says makes her come across as very ungreatful.
And also to all who know this family. Have you watched the trash mtv airs. Would you really want you family/friends to come across like the trash they air. mtv takes the film edits it how they want and they make people look bad. If she is the good girl you claim then please don’t let her be on mtv.
and yes its tradition to have one of these parties but last time i checked part of the tradition was not mtv filming the show.
And if they are saving money for this party I hope they are also saving money for college because if you can spend this much on a party then you need to pay for your own college education
Poor little girl. She does look like her heart has been ripped out. This past week and past two years families have lost their homes to the fires. Lost there home during a job layoff. Suck it up and be thankful that your parents can give you a party that cost what some here don’t make in three years, maybe even more. I am thankful your not my daughter cause even if I had it I wouldn’t spend it on a party for a fifteen year old. A nice party is one thing this is different. Parents nightmare. I’ve not followed this poor girls drama cause to me she’s like octomom. Who cares. Mom and dad are in for a long, expensive life.
Mom of this girl: Read your booking contract with Disney, because you will see it does not confer commercial broadcast rights or other professional taping permission just because you booked a catering venue. Taping for personal use is fine, but not taping for commercial distribution via broadcast or DVD. This is much ado over nothing, but MTV is getting some play out of this. Oh, by the way, Happy 15th Birthday!
All of you people are just resentful that this family has a lot of money to spend on a trivial event. Yes, $150k is a lot. So what? The family has the money saved up so they can use it however they want.
What’s the big deal? The girl may be a spoiled brat but who cares? If the family wants to spend the money, let them do it. Don’t let your jealousy make you look like a brat too.
How much money was mom going to get from MTV? She wasn’t going to let them film for free. Now her costs won’t be offset. The video is a joke. The girl said Disney didn’t give a reason for not allowing the taping. The reason is in the contract your mom signed sweetie. Imagine that, someone enforcing a contract . Sounds like this girl is used to getting everything she wants.
I have no problem with the money spent on the party. Sure $150k could do a lot of good elsewhere but the person who earned this $150k is choosing to spend it on her daughter. Good for her on being able to provide such a gift to her child.
That being said, the issue I think most people are having is the whining about not being able to get the MTV crew in to tape the show. MTV contacting her first or not is not the issue here. The issue is that when she was told, “no, you can’t film here”, the press was alerted. Many people see that move as an attempt to force Disney to cave on their corporate policies and that is just not the way a business woman or professional should act.
Instead of taking this opportunity to teach her daughter a valuable lesson about life, this mother is teaching her daughter that if things don’t go her way, kicking and screaming (metaphor, not literal) might just fix the problem. As you get older you have to learn how to roll with the punches and adapt as difficulties come your way. This does not change no matter how much money you have.
Shame on this news source for finding this newsworthy.
This mom acts like she is spending millions and deserves something. $150k to D-land is nothing, they probably make that their first hour of opening.
This reminds me of Seagulls: Mine! Mine! Mine! Mine!
The girl and her mother should cancel with Disney and take their ridiculous affair elsewhere. And as the mother said, its HER dream, not the daughter’s dream.
MH93 is the brat in the story. I’d put $150K on it.
She looks’ just like her dad freddy.
I cant believe there is even a video with this article.. all they girl did was brag about this and that…
obviously you cant get a straight answer the first time you ask especially with a big party, the disney rep they asked first about the taping probably had to get approval from the head honchos who ultimately have the final say. and when they say no… respect it and move on….
youre lucky theyre still letting you have the party there… disney probably doesnt even need your money and spoiled kids running around the hotel and like little brats…
“The Quinceañera, or Quince años (”fifteen years” in English), in Latin American culture, is a coming of age ceremony held on a girl’s fifteenth birthday. The term Quinceaños refers to the birthday of the celebrant, and the term Quinceañera refers to the celebrant herself. Like many other coming-of-age ceremonies, the Quinceaños is associated with the Quinceañera “becoming a lady”.”
act your age… a mature girl becoming a lady and stop whining and complaining
that goes for the mom too.
i didnt know that a quincenera would cost $150,000.00 my nieces quince is next weekend and we only spnt a smidge to have the beautiful quince for her and she does deserveit. We didnt make goodie bags we are having a formal sit down dinner, but mickey mouse is not going to be there . She is just proving that she has money and money doesnt buy ones happiness its the thought of ones parents or parent does, to make it happen, and my nieces mom is a single mom of 2, so it doesnt take $150,000.00 to make a quince it just takes that much money to get the attention and she did got it she is the only disney charector and her name is goofy…..
HEY MTV I HAVE A QUINCE NEXT SAT MAY 23 CALL ME AND WE CAN SHOW YOU WHAT A QUINCE IS ALL ABOUT…IM JUST A REG GIRL WHO ENJOYS MY MOM AND THANKS HER FOR EVERYTHING, MY MOM IS SINGLE AND SHE STILL PAID FOR MY QUINCE WHICH IS NO WHERE NEAR $150,000.00 BUT IT WILL BE THE BEST QUINCE AND GIRL CAN ASK FOR…
IM WAITING FOR YOU MTV….CALL ME…..
SH
My mom is single too. She paid for everything herself, & with the help of some family members & CHELSEAS MOM.
Speaking of being mature, why don’t you guys see both sides of the story? I know Chelsea and she is one of the nicest most understanding girls i have ever met. She was there when i needed it and when I was sad and she really helped me and was looking out for my best interest.
Anyways. Yes, she is spending a lot of money on her party. Yes, she is upset that Disneyland won’t let them film. But wouldn’t you be??
Good for her mom for saving up money and not BLOWING IT these past TEN years, and gifting her child with such an extravagant party. Why can’t she spend her savings on something she want to spend it on. It isn’t like it affects any of you people.
As for the comments on her appearance, grow up.
Do you people really have nothing better to do than just sit on your computer and bag on a girl that you probably do not even know? She is really pretty and really sweet.
She DOES NOT think that money is everything. She is a really genuine girl. She’s not even a drama starter or arrogant or anything.
To the point, it’s too bad that Disney won’t allow MTV filming, but I can see why they wouldn’t let them. Just because Chelsea’s mom saved up for TEN years for this party and decided to make it big, does not make them money wasters and it certainly does not make Chelsea a spoiled brat. Just because they have money to spend doesn’t mean they shouldn’t spend it on what they want.
As for the comments on her eyebrows and her nails, get a life. You have nothing better to do than bash a beautiful, sweet girl.
I’m sure all you people have made this birthday for her 15x more upsetting than it would have originally been.
She was not even that upset anyways. You all act like she thinks it is the end of the world. You guys are not focusing on the point of the matter. All of your guys are just talking all this smack on, “what a spoiled ugly brat she is”. Of course, it does suck to get news like that especially when your looking forward to something like this months before, but stop assuming what her personality is.
Happy birthday Chelsea<3 see you at school.
Don’t let these no-lifes bring you down.
WOW …
ALL YOU HEAR OUT OF THOSE SELF CENTERED
PEOPLE’S MOUTH IS
“I WANT I WANT I WANT”
WELL GET OVER IT DISNEY DOES WANT TO HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH YOU SPOILED DAUGHTERS PARTY. LET IT GO.
BEFORE SPENDING MONEY ON THOSE GIFT BAGS HOW
ABOUT DOING SOMETHING NICE FOR SOMEONE LESS FORTUNATE.
WHAAAA WHAAAA WHAAAA

This is all about the contract….did you tell Disney about MTV at the time you contracted the service? If not, you’re out. If it had been in the original agreement it would be happening…..you were afraid it was going to be rejected from the get go. Honestly rewards, deceivers get their due justice.
I totally agree with you!
From what read they’ve been working with the Disney Hotel People for the past year or so and t wasn’t until a month ago, after Chelsea sent in 2 videos to the MTV company asking them to feature her party on the Quiero Mi Quience that they notified the Disney people about the show and filming. Therefore, the MTV cameras/show were not part of the original contract.
“I don’t want to brag but its going to be really big”
“Still they would not give me the right answer”
“I gonna have, I’m going to get, my dress is hand made”
“Where’s my dream to become true?”
LOL!!
These quotes say it all…
I hope that they have a good time anyway for $150,000.00
That is $375 per person to feel like a princess for a day.
I just stumbled upon this article and really?!?
Good job Disney!! Good Job!
Good for them they worked hard and saved to get whatever they want but seriously the Disney company does not want another network (MTV) filming on there property, just let it go already. It’s their right and Disney doesn’t want any bad image (bratty unruly kids and parents) incorporated with them.
But please stop complaining, just be happy you can still have your party there. If you’re so desperate to have MTV there, go to another location.
And to the people defending this whiny pair wouldn’t be doing so unless they were invited. What if they weren’t invited would you be defending them?
I hope you guys are enjoying your 15 minutes of fame.
I was not invited to the party- and YES im still defending her.
I can see why Disneyland won’t let them film there, which is the MAIN POINT OF THE ARTICLE. But im mostly standing up for her because people are so quick to judge her. She’s truly a genuine girl.
good for you… good your defending them and you see the point but do the mother and daughter see the main point and why they can’t film there?
very true that the main point of the article is about the filming but the mom and daughter duo’s complaints and bragging seem to overpower the main point. it seems like all everyone can get from this article is “i have $$$ and i want and deserve” like they’re above everything because of the amount theyre spending on this party.
they just want to give the Disney corporation a bad name, and by getting the attention of the people and newspaper maybe Disney will change their minds.
not going to happen.
I don’t exactly know all their views on the situation, she just talked to me about it during school the other day about what happened. I don’t think they would go on the news to change Disney’s mind because theyre really genuine people (: She was telling me how she didn’t really want it to be a big deal and it wasn’t really a big deal but then she was a little sad because people were typing all this junk about her. I would be upset too. But really, she is truly sweet and adorable (: but again, I can see WHY Disneyland wouldn’t let them film. But it’s fine. She’s still gunna have a super good time (:
what a brat…….If I were her mom I would slit my throat….HAVE A BIRTHDAY PARTY WITH CLOSE FRIENDS NOT A BUNCH OF STRANGERS GIRL!
I really hope that on top of the $150,000 this woman put into savings for a birthday party, she has double the amount put into a college fund for that child’s future.
After reading the article, I supported Disney’s decision to not let MTV (A Paramount/Viacom company– one of Disney’s largest competitor) film the event.
After watching the video, I was flat-out disgusted with the way this mother and her daughter are reacting. It also solidified why I don’t read the OC Register, despite being a local for years.
I’m glad they have their priorities straight. People are losing their jobs & homes but this poor thing lost her chance to be on mtv! How dare Disney crush her dream!
This girl has a very bad case of the gimmes.
Note to all of Chelsea’s friends - yes her mom has the right to spend her money any way she sees fit but be ready for a backlash when you cry about a $150k party during a recession. You don’t want people making comments about your lifestyle, keep it private!
disney SHOULD LET HER FILM HER QUINCE. look u guys i dont care that mtv and disney R enemys, they need to let mtv flim the quince. i was thinking about having my quince there too but not any more.
Dude
Haha.
Yes, I agree with JasonP. I didn’t even look at the rest of the photos…the “pouting one” was enough for me. You know, “friend”, this pretty young girl should have her photo in the paper for something much more admirable than this. I’m happy to hear she has plans for college and wish her the very best.
Just because you are jealous because she is a BEAUTIFUL GIRL you don’t have to make these stupid remarks. Grow up and get Heart.
“goodness” Let me tell you something. Using the word ASSUME in your comment just flaunted ignorance. Don’t assume! Do you know this person? NO! Then don’t insult them!
Yes you are assuming, and guess what? Her father is right beside her. As where her mom got her money? Well poor you must be deficient in reading comprehension, I suggest you go back and re-read the article because you obviously missed that part. DON’T ASSUME!!
there is nothing goodness about what you say!!!!!
it’s ignorant racist remarks like this that disgust me. GET A LIFE!!! YES THEY ARE VERY LEGAL….ARE YOU???
Renee, you are one ignorant person. They are prabably more legal then you!!! Racist! Shame on you. Someone should come and confiscate your keyboard!
Enjoy your expensive gift bag. Too bad you won’t be on MTV.
The photographer told her to make a pouty face. Focus on the main point of the article, will you? (filming (i know her)
The main focus is that mom and daughter ran to the newspaper and TV when they didn’t get their way, and are claiming that their $150,000 party is essentially ruined because it can’t be on MTV. The pouty faces merely reinforce their arrogance and sense of entitlement.
