The Disneyland dragon has finally joined the Fantasmic! show.
Tonight, the problematic dragon came out in public for the first time during a water-and-light show on the Rivers of America.
Disney officials announced this afternoon that the animatronic dragon would debut after facing technical trouble all summer. The official summer season ended last month without an appearance by the dragon, which was the centerpiece in promotional materials.
Several in the audience had been waiting all summer and came just to see the show.
“I was disappointed with the delays, but felt it was worth the wait,” said Tyler Walker of Santa Ana.
Walker said he had come out several times during the summer in the hopes of seeing the dragon.
“It was amazing. It was huge,” said Walker. “It commanded the stage better than the old one.”
Inspired by a character in “Sleeping Beauty,” the dragon was designed to stretch as high as 45 feet tall and blow a 35-foot-long plume of fire to ignite the Rivers of America in Frontierland.
While the plume of fire worked well during tests earlier in the week, it did not work as planned during its first appearance to the public. However, many didn’t seem to notice.
“It was worth the money I paid to be here tonight,” said Wayne Campbell of Fresno.
The show is scheduled for 8:15 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday; and 9 and 10:30 p.m. Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
After that, the show will only go on during Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and holidays through the end of the year. On busy days, Disney can add extra shows, but the decision is not made until that day.

Finally!
Yes Finally! Satan has arrived at Disneyland.
Really Tammi? Satan? Next time I go to Disneyland I’d better bring black candles and a virgin to sacrifice because clearly the entire empire only worships satan and I don’t want to be out-of-step with everyony else. I’ve got news for you kiddo, Satan doesn’t need Disneyland–he’s got a comfortable abode right there inside your head.
Me thinks Tammi was being comical. Somebody needs more fresh air…
Jalopy is yet another Disney robot with no sense of humor.
Come on now, There’s no need for name calling.
Will they ever go down on ticket price ? Make sure you pack your own food. The Happiest Place on Earth; but not the price.. : )
… Or perhaps, a morning cup of coffee. If Tammi’s comment was comical, and not a sarcastic reply to anonymous’ post, then I wholeheartedly apologize.
It took all summer to fix a dragon that barely moves, has a fog machine in its nose and shoots a burst of fire? I don’t get it. Much hype over nothing.
Regardless, the new dragon IS a big improvement over the old one.
I was one of the people who did NOT obsess over this all Summer.I love this new dragon.
You missed the point, but nice way to defend the park, Disney employee.
I assure you. I am NOT a Disney employee.
There is no need to be so nasty, and I did not insult you.
Why so sensitive? No one is attacking you, Disney employee.
Well it’s about Damned Time! Now I can see the Show one more time before I cast my vote to close it forever unless the Idiots learn better crowd Control. Why they just didn’t move it to D.C.A. I’ll never know. It’s time to return the Rivers of America back to it’s Original form and stop the Congestion and Destruction of New Orelans Square.
Amen. California Adventure is a vast wasteland and should become the home of things like this and the fireworks show.
Don’t forget, DCA will be getting a nighttime show of its own, so there is no room for Fantasmic there.
But yes, I agree that DCA has a lot of wasted space.
And by my word of Honor, I am NOT a Disney employee.
I an personally shocked and offended by your rudeness on that other subject
You don’t even know me and you acted so rude and nasty toward me.
REALLY easy to act that way online, isn’t it?
No room for Fantsmic? California Adventue has nothing BUT room. I have never paid so much to walk around an endless maze of walkways. As far as you being offended, you duth protest too much. No one cares, get over it.
I think that the dragon looks cool!
There could be MANY reasons for why they dragon took so long to debut. There could have been mechanical problems, parts could have broken, etc…
Marie does not have to resort to being so rude to others.
She has called two people names here.
I imagine that she is rude is real life too.
Its too bad that this comment section isn’t moderated.
The head fell off and Disney broke the programming. But I personally think this was well worth the wait.
So to recap, Fred complains about my tone and then resorts to calling me “rude in real life too”. Hypocrite much, skippy?
Ok all now moving it to DCA wopuld increase that parks attendance, but then it would become a WDW version with no peter pan (Columbia) and a PVC pipe Mark Twain. For thoise who have never seen the WDW version consider yourself lucky that eventhough it is crowded the DL version is SOOOOO much better than the scaled down one from WDW which is what you would get if it moved to DCA. There is room but they would NEVER go to the expense of building a captian hook ship or a mark twain would be cheap cardboard cut outs just like the rest of DCA!
