Where to find Halloween treats at Disneyland

appleresizedIf you haven’t already experienced your sugar high during the Halloween season, a visit to Disneyland will surely change that.

During Disney’s Halloween Time, Disney chefs have concocted some new, tasty treats. Ranging from Zero’s Ghostly Ghoulash — served in a dog dish as inspired by the lovable pup from Tim Burton’s “The Nightmare Before Christmas” — to a cup of warm apple cider, the new snacks provide a nice change from the generic churro and popcorn sold during the rest of the year.

I stopped by the French Market in New Orleans Square to taste test some of the new desserts. First on the menu was the French apple pie. From the fresh apples inside to the cinnamon crumb topping to the caramel drizzle on top, this pie exploded with flavor. Though extraordinarily sweet, the flavor was well-balanced and delicious. I give credit for this to my favorite part of the pie — the cinnamon crumb topping — providing a bit of spice in contrast to the sugary goodness.

Next up was the Jack Skellington Coffin Dessert. This treat consists of four gobs of red velvet cake coated in a chocolate shell and topped with cream (intended to look like tomb stones) accompanied by a pure sugar Jack Skellington figure. It’s all served inside a plastic coffin. For those of you still confused by the elaborate dessert, it’s basically a fancy, red-velvet cake version of a Hostess Ding Dong. Compared to the intensely sweet apple pie, the coffin dessert was very mild in flavor. However, what it lacked in richness was made up for the treat’s creative presentation.

Other Haunted Mansion Holiday themed treats are served at the Cafe Orleans and Blue Bayou. One dessert is hazelnut tiramisu topped with pumpkin mousse.

Halloween snacks are also served at various locations throughout the Disneyland Resort. Click here for Disney’s guide to their Halloween Time treats.
