The massive bottom half of Disneyland’s Christmas tree slowly made its way along Main Street USA – followed by the top half.
Both were carried by cranes early Tuesday morning, as the theme park finished decking itself out with annual holiday decorations.
The 13-ton, 60-foot-tall artificial tree is in its second year at the theme park; two years ago, in part to go more green, Disney quit using live trees.
More than 60,000 lights are on the new one, along with 2,000 ornaments.
“The lighting and the electrical weigh over 5,000 pounds - a real tree wouldn’t be able to accommodate that kind of weight,” said David Caranci, Manager of Resort Enhancement at the park.
Early Tuesday morning also found more than 40 workers on lifts or ladders decorating the rest of Main Street. Elsewhere, crews added a snow-and-icicle look to the castle. More than 100,000 lights were attached to the “it’s a small world” façade, and ornaments and lights sprung up in New Orleans Square, too.
As night turned to dawn, technicians were tinkering to get the tree’s programmable lighting system working. They said everything would be ready by Friday, when Disney’s holiday season officially kicks off.
Even though I am not a religious person, I am delighted every time I enter Disneyland during this very special time of year. Thank you for the magic! I cannot wait to see the loveliness again.
What part of a giant, fake tree covered with computer-controlled electronics says “religion”? It is magic and it’s a direct descendant of the pagan origins of winter holidays.
They certainly are going to put up a manger with the baby Jesus, or a cross. The politically correct crowd would be so “offended” that the 85% or more of Americans that are Christian would choose to celebrate their religion on a day when it has been made into a national holiday. The left and state controlled media would be demonizing Disneyland till it was removed.
They could hand out Qur’an’s to everyone at the gate and that would be okay and accepting of diversity and other religions, but nothing to do with Christianity because we all know it’s about demonizing Christianity and eliminating it.
Wow!
Remember the days when Thanksgiving actually came after Halloween?
Makes one wonder when they’ll start pushing the Christmas shopping season back to Easter….
I’m almost 55 years old. My dad used to complain about Christmas before Halloween. “Soon it will be after 4th of July” he used to say. This was in the ’60s mid-west little town. We complain every year.
Sure sounds good to hear people say Merry Christmas again and not Happy Holidays.
Happy Holidays, Caseclosed.
Happy Holidays and a very very Merry Christmas to you icedamericano may our Lord and Savior be with you always.
May the force be with you, always.
I’m not a big fan of organized religion, but I do have to agree that it’s nice to see people saying Merry Christmas again instead of the bland and meaningless “happy holidays”. I’ve been interested to see the word “Christmas” return to advertisements and store displays in the last couple years at Sears and WalMart and Nordstrom etc.
I mean really, the whole thing is about Christmas, so you might as well just be an adult and admit it. Bravo to Disneyland for still going all out for Christmas! The whole park is just stunning this time of year.
Halloween was a week and a half ago, and Disney is putting up Christmas decorations?
What happened to Thanksgiving? Guess that’s the day park patrons get the bird.
You obviously don’t know what or how long it takes to set up a display of that or any magnitude. Otherwise you would understand.
Merry Christmas.
The Lord God reigns.

Here that Obama???? It’s a CHRISTMAS TREE, not a holiday tree.
“Hear”
My family celebrates a holiday during this time of year as well, but it’s not “Christmas” - it IS a holiday though, and I (me personally) am put off when being wished a “Merry Christmas” - I would never say “Happy My Celebration” to a stranger - “Happy Holidays” encompasses ALL the celebrations during this time of year. But hey, that’s me.
Yeah! Can’t wait to see them in person at the KOST Holiday Kick-Off Party next Thursday!
